Wasn't quite sure where to post this, but here seemed to make the most sense. When I came back to serious lifting 2 years ago at the age of 30 I encountered something new - joint pain. My first month back a guy asked me to spot him on bench. I gave him a lift and a sharp cracking sound came from my right wrist. For about a month it couldn't support any weight at all, now it just hurts a little worse than the other joints. X-rays and ultrasound didn't turn up anything. But the pain I've been getting - especially in both wrists and elbows - has been unreal. The joints feel like they're made of peanut brittle, and they crack a lot. Of course, I get shoulder and knee pain too, but it's not too extreme (and the shoulder pain is muscular, not skeletal). But the pain in my elbows, wrists, and to an extent the bones of my hands is practically debilitating. I haven't been able to find a doctor who has a clue (or even takes it seriously). I'm only 32. I don't use extremely heavy weights, only moderately heavy (rarely barbell curl over 100). I'm seriously worried about my continued health and my ability to continue lifting (hated my 5 year layoff, never want to be out of the gym again). HELP!! Any thoughts - training, nutrition, supplement (trying glucosamine, doesn't seem to do too much), whatever - would be greatly appreciated. IP: Logged |

I am guessing it may be tendonitis. Did any of the doctors suggest this? As for nutrition, Flax Seed oil helps reduce swelling along with other nutritional benefits. IP: Logged |

sounds rough, you'll have to be extra careful in the gym.Stay away from excercises that put undue pressure on the joints like deep squats, hack squats, skull crushers, and dips.I would also avoid using machines and barbells where possible and substitute dumbell movements. This way your not fixed to a certain plane of movement, and can find your own groove.Keep the reps in the upper range and use perfect form. You could also try the super slow method of training, which might suit you better.Try the supplement board for more info on what might help alleviate your condition.Good luck.
