I recently got up to an all time best bench press (295 LBS X 1) and squat. At this time I was also benching 265 about 4 times. Then I just felt like I hit a wall and started getting tendon problems in my elbow and thumb. SO I decided to back off. Last week I went to 75% of my previous bests and did it 10 times. Pretty easy sets. Each week I am going to add 5-10 LBS trying to keep the reps at 10. My goal is over the next month or so to get up to benching 265 10 times and establish a new personal best bench. Is this a wise way to go or should I stick to always trying to lift harder and more each time? IP: Logged |

what I have been doing recently with success is I find a weight i can do for 4-5 reps. Then each week I try and get one more rep until I can do 8 reps. Then I will add about 20-30 lbs to a weight I can do for 4-5 again and repeat the process. In the past year I have gone from benching 350 to the low 400's and have gained about 15-20 lbs. IP: Logged |
