i'm 15 and trying to build some good muscle mass this summer. right now i'm about 5'5, 130 lbs, but i wanna try reach around 140-150 lbs.
my routine involves working each muscle group once a week. i do 4-5 sets, 6-8 reps, heavy weight, 3-4 excercises.
do you think this will help build some muscle if i keep to this for a while?
as far as my diet goes, how much protein should i be eating, how many calories and how many carbs a day?

hmm...you're kind of young but generally a gram of protein per day for each lb of body weight (so if you weigh 130, 130gms protein/day) and if you want to add size eat as much as you can 5-7 times a day (just eat healthy...chicken, fish, veggies etc) you shouldn't need to count calories, just eat alot, workout, and get your rest. I agree with everything that mrbill said. Most importantly, I agree that you are fairly young to get into a mass building routine. I think it's fantastic that you fell this way. But unfortunately since you are so young and I assume that you haven't been lifting for very long, your body isn't ready yet for lifting very heavy.

Try doing a total body workout 3 days a week, hitting all the muscles 3 times a week. Do this for about 8 weeks and use light to moderately heavy weight in the rep range of 10 to 12. This approach will give your muscles a good start for lifting heavier weight down the road.

I know where your coming from. I started lifting a year younger than you are now. That was 16 years ago and I'm still doing it. When I started I wanted to get big instantly so I worked out constantly. I was so eagger that I was overtraining my muscles. And being that I just started, with this intensity I was getting injured allto.

The point I'm trying to make is this. At the time I didn't know what I know now about training. As a result I made allot of mistakes. There's allot of knowledgable people on this board and I know that with your eagerness you can really benefit from them.

Don't forget deadlifts. Stick to the basics. Squat, deadlift, bench, row and other basic exercises. Learn to use good form on these and then start to add weight. If you learn these exercises early on and stick to them, you'll be way ahead of most teenagers.

The last two posts say iT all HEAVY COMPOUND MOVEMENTS . REMEMBER THE BASICS FOR MAX GROWTH!!! the squat deadlift and bench are your friends there bags are packed they have there airline tickets take them home!

dude I am 16 and have been like you and still am I thought like you but then people told me that I just need to learn form and do the basic movements. Squats are my favorite but I guess time is the only way. or steroids. don't try to show off with heavy wieght either because not many people notice or care and also it will injure you with bad form besides remember strict form is the way to grow. I hurt a rotator when I started by lifting to heavy

thanks for the advice everyone. i've been doing squats and bench since i started lifting about a year ago and have very good form on everything. my squat is up to about 240.
what are some good compound excercises for your arms to build them up?

Lift three times a week, using two core lifts every day and then do auxillary exercises every day that you lift. Also do sprints and plyometrics for speed. TRUST ME, you should do Bench and Squats on Monday. Then do auxillary lifts with them. On Wednesday do Dead Lifts and Cleans. Those will help with power and explosiveness. On Friday do Towel Bench and Box Squats. Stick with those and you will grow.
