For me SLDL are the only way to work the hams. Get someone to check your form while you do them. You should feel them in the hams and lower back. IP: Logged |

If your gym has a cable machine lower the pulleys to the floor. Get a stair step and place it in frot of the pulluy. Your gym may have ankle straps with a hook, or tell them to get some or go out and get your own. Hook up to the cable, keep your knee in place and curl away. This isolates the hams BIG time. I've already posted this a couple of times but I say it again. Check out this weeks online tmag. It has one of the best ham workouts that I have ever tried. Later, IP: Logged |

Gowzer, i've tried two ways of doing them. The first way i tried was a full range of movement lifting from the floor, legs slightly bent, arms straight untill i'm standing straight.I,ve also tried another way where you you stand up straight holding the bar, pull your shoulders back, chest out and lower the bar to about knee level and back up, this felt weird, but both ways it feels like a lower back movement. When you do the stiff legged deads you should keep your back straight and lower the bar to mid shin and then back up but not all of the way up. Keep tension on your back and hams. Make sure that your feet are closer than shoulder width and hold the bar up against your legs for the entire movement. If you feel like you are going to fall backwards then you are doing the exercise correctly. Some people say to go heavy on this exercise and some say to go lighter with higher reps. I try to alternate heavy periods with lighter periods but my experience is that going heavy puts more emphasis on your lower back than your glutes and hams. Also back hyperextensions with weight will also work your hams/glutes/lower back. Later, IP: Logged |

For me, DEEP squats with moderately-low weight burns my hammies up. Also try the Abductor/Adductor machine if you have one at your gym. This exercise should work the inner hammy (gracilius), groin, and outer leg/glute. This could help to produce a fuller looking leg. IP: Logged |

i gotta agree with the guys who are recommending SLDL. i love that exercise. i only do 2 heavy sets of it, but i feel it in my hams for the entire week... oh yeah, forgot to give a tip or two about them... like people have said, keep your feet close together... and i've found that if i bend my knees *slightly* i get a better stretch in my hams... and i've heard that a wider grip will also give you a better stretch in the hams, but i haven't experimented enough to find out for myself. SLDL is definitely my fav too! But, as mentioned earlier, make sure your feet are closer than shoulder width. I find it works better for hammies that way. When you hit it right trust me, you'll know it!!! ------------------ IP: Logged |

Romanian/SLDL are the best for hams. If you are feeling it too much in your lower back, try lowering the weight until you can focus on using your hams. Trust me, it works. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Consider doing hams on another day than your squats for awhile.Do SLDL first on back day maybe.Lying curls can be done on a flat bench, have someone place a db between your feet and curl, man. This leg curl rocks once you get the hang of it. IP: Logged |

maybe you should try stiff-legged deadlifts BUT use dumbells instead of a barbell. It might not seem like a big difference, but just give them a try. Theres a guy at my gym who competes on the national level in bodybuilding and he has outstanding hams. I talked to him one day and he told me about this exercise. Out of any exercise for hams...this one I can feel the most tension on. If you give it a try...lettme know how they worked for ya IP: Logged |
