Ok, i've heard some guys talking about only training a muscle group once a week.(for naturals) Thats seems a bit weak to me. Everything i've read in books says to train a muscle group twice a weak. I always thought you could train after 4 days of recuperation if your muscles weren't sore. After 4 days my muscles seem fine, so why should i wait any longer to lift again? Thanks for you time. The guys who write the books are on juice. You train twice a week - you'll make great gains at first (everyone does no matter what you are doing). But then you will start to suffer from overtraining and , in my case and many others, joint pains and problems. I've done it all: twice a week, three times a week etc. But after years of experimenting I've realised that once a week is enough. I've also realised that you can completely fatigue a muscle in only a few sets (8-12). There is no need to do 20 sets of everything like Arnie used to do. IP: Logged |

"...After 4 days my muscles seem fine, so why should i wait any longer to lift again?" but your muscles still growing. Your "close-to-last" training session stops the hyper-compensation process. To work muscle group just once a week would be The Better Choice. For example: IP: Logged |

i train the same muscle group every 6 day. and that works great for me. i thin you COULD train a bodypart twice a week, but over a limited period of time. always good to shock the muscles once in a while. ------------------ http://home.sol.no/~mrmuscle/ IP: Logged |

Its all up to a certain persons genetic make up,some people can get away with working out certain body parts more often than others. You have to listen to what your body tells you, exception is when on AS then you must let your body rest more like it or not, because of the extra strain of muscles, joints, ligaments, while on a cycle. I dunno what you guys are gonna think of this but my friend does bench press and shoulders every workout, and in the last while he's realized significant gains. But again, we're still young so I can see why you wouldn't train your parts as much when your older. IP: Logged |

I don't know old the guys on this froum are but you can work a mucle group twice a week and make gains. It's all about how you cycle your training,ie-light,medium,heavy training and other variables.Rest, nutrition, stress etc.... If your young like 18 or younger then I wouldn't worry to much but it has it's place. Athletes and bodybuilders use this method. IP: Logged |

I'm 17 years old so i'm fairly young. Do you think i could effectively work a muscle group twice a week? If so how much sleep would i need and what kinds of foods should i eat? And what are some signs of overtraining? [This message has been edited by FlexMachine (edited June 04, 2000).] IP: Logged |

i think you could..but like i said, over short periods of time..max 12 weeks. kids at your age, dont tend to work as hard as the more expienced in the gym, so i think you will be allright. But, offcourse, there are also 17 year old that works harder then everybody else...so im not flaming you or anything..its just, the guys you see in the gym doing chest every day, tend to be in your age group. ------------------ http://home.sol.no/~mrmuscle/ IP: Logged |

Thanks for the help. But how do you know if you're overtraining? IP: Logged |

Overtraining isn't like diseases where the same symptoms pretty much always show up. When you overtrain you tend to be edgy with people and more stressful, sore, and don't feel like lifting. Also you might seem more depressed. But people are different so you may be overtraining and the effect could be who knows more aggressive. Symptoms vary in the overtraining dept. for people. One person who over trains might have everyone one of them symptoms I listed while another might not have one. I had all the symptoms I listed last summer when I overtrained You just have to listen to what your body is tellin you. Listen carefully though cause its hard to hear what its got to say. ------------------ IP: Logged |
