My knees are bad to begin with and I'm told that from playing hockey I am worsening my knees. If I don't do anything to strengthen them me playing hockey can be in jeopardy and I ain't about to give up hockey. So that brings me to my first question. What exercises strengthen the knees? And now for my second question. What cardio exercies are easy on them? Thanx.

I'm with you bro, I've got the worst knees. First of all, they are all out of alignment, when I flex them, my kneecaps wiggle to the left and then back to the right... really ugly thing to watch. And whenever I do my squats, my knees start popping worse than rice krispies in whole milk... I mean it really can't be good for my joints. I'm hoping it will go away, but knowing my luck I'll wake up with arthritis in my knees and elbows.

i honestly don't see how skating on ice could be all that bad for the knee's..sure it might not be the greatest thing for them, but it doesn't even compare to the problems sustained from say jogging, where your knees are continually force to absorb the impact.

you can't beat bicycling...little to no stress on the knee's (with the exception of mountain biking) and one hell of a cardiovascular workout.

Thanx Ockizard, I'm gonna minimize my joggin and use the exercise bike more. Bu for speed and agility training, I gues I'm gonna have to sprint, but that should'nt hurt them too much.

Rexie-
try checking out the tracks at the high schools that are around your area. if i remember correctly, almost all of my local schools had a very soft "rubbery" track that "gave" in and absorbed most of the impact, rather than your knees. they also work damn well with the rain..

Swimming is the safest cardio as long as you can swim,Bikes are great too,but make sure you keep the gearing hi,or your knees will suffer Been There done that.
