i have been working out for 5 months and only gained 2 pounds muscle. i consume about 150 grams of protein a day, i weigh 139 pounds, i eat a fat free diet and moderate carbs, i work out extremely hard twice a week; chest and abs. is my gains minimal because i am only working 2 body parts? or do i have bad genetics? please give me some opinions if you have time, i have no one else to turn to.

Part of your problem is the fact that you only train 2 body parts. you must train your entire body, especially legs if you want to gain mass. Do not keep your fat intake low, fat is one of the most anabolic legal supplements you can use. Try to use good sources however, such as flax and walnut oil. Same goes for carbs but try to eat good complex carbs veggies fruits. The other problem is you are probably going through what is called an induction phase. What is happening right now in your body is your nerves are not in complete contact with your muscles. Keep training and eventually your nerves will catchup and your gains will come. And remember squats and deadlifts will do more for your arms then curls will any day.

You need to rework your whole training schedule, why would you only work your chest and abs, i don't understand, for a complete package you need much more then that, work your shoulders, back, biceps, ...etc, also don't neglect your legs, they are half your body, it terms of diet, eat everything thats not nailed down, you'll gain

You need to train the other main
muscle groups back,legs,triceps & biceps
Abs are something you do at the end of a workout.Do some dead lifts & squats thats
the kinda stuff that will make your whole
body grow cause it causes your body to release more growth hormone. If Arnold had
just trained chest ya think he woulda got
that big.Take in atleast 200 grams of protein
& take about 3000mg of glutamine a day.
Do all that train hard & intense & watch
how fast you grow!

Eat everything you can get hold off. Don't get so fussy about fat and carbs - in the beginning you just want to feed your body. Like everyone says, you can't just work you chest and abs. IF you apply the fact that you've have gained 2 llbs of muscle when only training your chest - just think how much weight you could gained if you had worked the rest of your body!

Ahh the typical beach workout chest and abs. You need to train your entire body! Do heavy compound movements for max growth. The deadlift and squat should helpyou pack on what your lookin for...quality mass!

try to get a lot more fats, eat as many carbs as you can the night before you workout and about 4 hours before you work out

You should train your whole body, but the more muscle you gain in your legs the more weight you gain cause thats where most of yuor body weight is. For most people at least, I know its that way for me.
