Like it or not bodybuilding at fifteen or whatever will stunt your growth. Your body starts growing muscle instead of height and your brain doesn't know the difference. All your brain knows is that you are growing. How the f**k is it meant to grow two ways at once?? I have a friend who started weight training at 13 and he was about 5ft 4'. He never grew another inch in height but he packed on about ten pounds of muscle in two years. It wasn't worth it though. I don't think anyone would want to sacrifice height for muscle.

I don't doubt that was the case but is there any studies or reports that support that conclusion?

I would be interested to read them.

Sorry bro but thats a bunch of BS. Working out will not stunt your growth. Taking steriods while a teenager will stunt your growth. Your height etc is in your genes.

Man I think you are misinformed. I started lifting at fifteen to get bigger for football. I didn't grow past 6'1" but that is purely genetic. I never made it reached higher then HS ball but I'm pretty sure most of the massive guys in the NFL (many 6'6" lineman @ 300lbs) started lifting at a least fifteen.

Height is in the genes, but can be altered by the environment in which you live in. When I say environment I mean how your body is treated, by smoking, use of drugs, or malnutrition. As for lifting at an early age stuntin it I have no F***in clue, but I sure as hell ain't sitting on my ass while I wait for some smoe in a lab to tell me. I'm at a somewhat average height 5'8" and have been hitting my growth spurts so I'll hit my predicted height of 5'11" pretty soon. And even if you are short, you can still tear shop down in whatever you do. Look at guys like Dexter Coakley(5'10"), the Dallas Cowboys linebacker, and Theo Fleury(5'6") on the New York Rangers. They're short compared to other athletes in their respective sports, but are great at them also.

P.S.-I'm not a Cowboys nor Rangers fan, but recognize talent and respect it. Go Flyers!!!!

hey doc,
It's called Growth Hormone dicksmack. Teenagers have a lot of it, and it makes everything grow. It'll make your bones grow vertically, and your muscles bigger. Go get a fuckin clue then come talk to me. Till then, shut the fuck up.

p.s. your friend is a pussy, i've grown three inches and gained 80 pounds since i started lifting four years ago.

Some uneducated people...I started weight training at the age of 13. I was 5'7". Now I am 6'0" and I have been lifting for 13yrs. So kiss my ass if exercising with weights stunts your growth...steroid use at that age will stunt your growth. Roid use will cause your growth plates to close prematurly.

there is no way your body tells it to stop growing because you are working out with weights.

You better read more.
