Anyone got a good program for abs? My upper abs have developed nicely over the last couple of months. I just cant seem to get rid of the spare tire. I work out on Mon. Tue. Thur. & Fri.

Hmmmm...need more info about your workout. Do you do any cardio to burn off the fat? Do you do cardio in the morning on an empty stomach? How many days a week do you weight train, how many for cardio and what's your program?

Abs are muscles and like other muscles they respond to the same training. You won't get a six pack by doing abs 4 days a week. Train abs twice per week, doing 6 sets of 10 each time. To get visible abs you need to lose fat by doing cardio and changing your diet. You could have the best abs in the world but know one can see them if they are buried under fat.

I work out on Mon. Tue. Wed. & Thur. On mondays and Thursdays I work chest, shoulders, tri's, and abs. On Tuesday and Friday I work back, bi's, legs, and abs. I hit each muscle group pretty hard twice a week and abs four times. I do very little cardio b/c of time restraints. Am I overtraining?

if u sleep enough and eat right u arent overtraining. To develope lower abs i recommend hanging leg raises, they are the bomb. but u wont get rid of that spare tire without cardio AND a diet.

Hanging leg raises are great! I work my abs every time I train at the gym.... whether it's 5 days/wk. or one wk. it might be 4 days/wk. Sometimes, I work them at home while watching videos. You can never work your abs too much.

use deep squat, deadlift in your routines for strengthen the abs
also do floor crunches i liked ab bench very usefull for ab developing
do not do more than 20 reps for a set on abs
because abs are sensitive low reps, mean they are fast twitch muscle but you can do many sets like 5-6 for example; 3-4 minutes rest between sets
change your diet in a low calorie type
I HAVE GOOD ABS, APPLY THIS METHOD

actually, if you train ur abs so much one day that they get sore u are doing something wrong. UR ABS SHOULD NOT GET SORE FROM CRUNCHES, THAT IS MAKING IT EASIER FOR U TO GET A HERNIA

WTF?????? Where did you get that info?? My abs are sore all the time, hell you have to work them like any other muscle. I never got a hernia, dont know anyone who did from weight training in my whole 11 years of lifting. You can get a hernia from overexerting yourself or trying to do more weight than you are really capable of doing. You are more likely to get a hernia if you have WEAK ab muscles.

I'm with many of you, cardio is essensial for abs.... You see unlike your arms, and legs which normally have little amount of fat, the abdominal area retains fat like crazy, especially on woman. Unfortunetely, you can work abs like crazy and never see a thing if you have a layer of fat covering it. I do cardio and abs everyday (resting is for size, not definition). Once the you start trimming the fat, god knows what you'll find under there.
I do everything imaginable for abs. Keep in mind that crunches and all those similar excercised will give you firm, strong abs but will not give you the definition your looking for. Need weights for definition.
THat's my 2 cents anyways.

Unfortunately the spare tire is the last thing to go away and ab exercises will not get rid of it. Like everyone here is telling you, cardio is the ticket. Until you get your body fat down to below 10 percent you will not be able to see any of the hard ab work you are doing.

Looks like im going to try and do a little more cardio. Im going to start swimming a few laps twice a week. I've heard that this is about the best thing for cardio. Is this true? And will it cause me to lose mass other than fat?

I train my abs every single day, except for sunday usually. Abs recover much quicker than most muscles in the body and a lot of people can get progress much faster if they train them more rigourously than other parts. IMO, good abs are key to a good overall physique. Also, dont do any abs right after you eat anything... bad idea
