Basicaly, A week ago I didnt warm up or stretch, and worked my chest. THe next day i felt this sharp pain where my sternum meets my breast bone. THe doctor says I have a muscle strain or someting along the the line. Has anyone ever had this problem? I know if I work my chest again its gonna hurt like hell. So im just doing arms at the moment. How long does this shit take to heal, cuz its been a week now and the pain is less, but still there. IP: Logged |

I have never had an injury to my chest but if it is like any other strain it could be 2-3 weeks for full recovery. Much of it depends on the severity of the orginal injury. Also if you are doing anything now not to aggravate it. Some tricep exercises use some chest muscles. Things like dips, close grip bench presses, and french presses taken further back than the forehead. Use complete isolation exercises to avoid the chest. As much as I hate injuries, resting the injury is the best thing in this situation. IP: Logged |

I injured by chest when I slammed into a car on my motor bike going down the interstate highway. Had a sharp pain in the center of the chest when I coughed, sneezed, or took a deep breath. About two weeks after the accident I started getting a pain going around my left side and up my back. Doctor told me it was a cracked sternum (sp?) and it was pinching a nerve that went around my left side. I was told not to do anything that made it hurt for about six months. That was about 5 years ago and I don't feel any after effects now. IP: Logged |
