Without the proper machine can any suggest any leg exercises to work the inner and outer thighs?

I have never done this, but I have seen people do it: Using a cable low pulley and a ankle strap doing abductors and adductors.
I asked them if it worked and they said it was actually harder then the machines.

yup, the cables work the same muscles and you can rotate 90 degrees to catch the hip flexers and your ass. I prefer roller blades and horseback riding myself ;p
