I play basketball and like most want to be able to throw it down with authority. I am 6 ft. tall and I have a verticle of 30 inch but want much more. I can dunk but it isn't the way I want to be able to. If anyone out there can help me with a program that would increase my verticle, will you please help. Also is there anything that i can take to help build the muscles i need for this? thanks!!!! IP: Logged |

I always found that doing real heavy calf exercises helped me to Jump higher when I play Volleyball. Also Roller Skating helped. Let me know how you make out. [email protected] IP: Logged |

Joe, you're joking I hope!!!!!!! Power snatches bro. Period. I'm closing in on 280 and have a 36" vert. As my snatch goes up my vert goes up. IP: Logged |

power cleans and power snatches. these are the best weight lifting excerises for building explosiveness and increaseing your vert. also do plyos. remeber to use good form. IP: Logged |

The answer is squat. Squat, squat, and squat. See Fred Hatfield's site at drsquat.com IP: Logged |

What you need is to do squats, leg presses, and boatloads of calves exercises at very high reps. That way you get quick firing muscles. Just keep working em and working em more. ------------------ IP: Logged |

box jumps (can use light db's) Hang cleans w/ front squat speed jumps (jump as high as you can and touch a spot on a wall.) After that make 25-35 jumps as fast as you can trying to touch the same spot. You can also do jump rope IP: Logged |

Oh yeah, with the wall jumps... don't reset in order to make the jump. stay on your toes. you should feel it bigtime in your calves. take like seconds in between each set and do 3-4 sets IP: Logged |

ok, lifting weights is not the answer to jumping...unless you are doing snatches where you use your fast twitch muscle fibers...best thing to do is go to your high school track if it has bleachers...jump up and down those things anyway you can think, one time jump off both legs onto every step, then jump off both legs onto every other step, jump off one leg onto every step, jump off one leg onto every other step...make sure you go up and down, do 3 sets of each way...this is a killer plyometric exercise...just remember that as soon as you land you immediately jump again, thats how you create plyometrics...then after your calves are toasted, run some wind sprints, get on the track, sprint as fast as you can for 1/4 lap, walk 1/4 lap, sprint 1/4, walk 1/4, so on so forth...do this every other day, no more or youll overtrain your calves IP: Logged |
