I am 59 and have been dedicatedly lifting for about 5 years. I have read excellent material from different sources and am yet able to find someone who can tell me at my age what routine would help me maximize growth & body build. I am 6'4" and weigh 238-250. I work out 4-5 days a week and always do at leat 50 minutes of cardio as a warmup to my lifting. Recumbent bicycle and eliptical split in time. Everything is in my home, Paramount system, 2 stacks w/leg press, free weights, powerblock to 95 lbs. I lift 2-3 times a weel using a 4 count method on negative and 2 count on positive in my exercises to exhaustion for each body part. I mix free and cable, I love lifting but want the most for my time. I am open to suggestions and i take Creatine, 2 months on, 1 off. Ron IP: Logged |

I think (from personal experience) that you are doing too much Cardio. My warm up is 50 Jumping Jacks & 5 Mins. of Stretching and that seems to Work fine. Again: This is what works for me. I found that if I have to loose Weight, or I need better Endurance, Cardio is great. But for Lifting Weights, I dont need it. Joe IP: Logged |

You only have to do 20 minutes of cardio. around 3 times a week, and never do it right before a workout .Do it on your days off or if you have the time do it in the morning then in the afternoon do your workout. If your only using it for a warmup, 10 minutes is good enough. You didnt tell me your slpit routine for your workout so i really cant help you there. I would lessen the cardio...unless you are are training for a contest and your bodyfat is in the double digits. IP: Logged |

I agree that you are doing too much cardio if you want to add muscle mass and strength. The cadio is using up your calories that would other wise be used for gaining muscle. Also Mix up your routine every now and then, Make sure you don't do the same thing every week. Confuse the muscle. IP: Logged |
