Roman chair situps, do those while someone throws you a 10lb medicine ball. The wheel works well. When you do abs, pick 3-4 exercises and superset them. Have little rest inbetween each set. Do 3-4 sets. Burn em out Cardio 3-4 days a week, 30-45 minutes and mix up your routine, keep your bod guessing.

ever since i started training heavy(4-6 rep range) i haven't trained my abs at all.training heavy and the zone diet did it for me.but every time i squat, deadlift, bench or row,i make sure my abs are always tight.this has worked for me!!!also,i practice "vacuum posing" every night b4 going to bed.this has helped w/ ab control.fyi

danielson, you're probably arching your back when performing this exercise.when doing roman chairs, keep in mind that you must remain "crunched" and not arched...i beleive this is what's causing your lower back pain.fyi.try it and let me know.

just finished up with the gym today....didn't feel any back pain on the roman chair. as it goes i might have arched my back a bit too much on the cable crunches as well, i made it more of a crunching motion and got better burn out of it. Cheers big thinker
