I often use bag work but I use martial arts not just boxing alone.

ive boxed for the last 6 yrs and the best routine for me isnt a routine at all,if you know all your basic punches just hit the bag in rounds 3min rounds w/1 min rest and every time you can do one more round do it ph21 ------------------

quote: depends on the bag your using, but unless you wanna lose ther ability to write for a week, WRAP YOUR HANDS!!!!! (your hand have some really delicate bones- trust me it hurts if you mash them up!) strictly speaking you don't have to use gloves as well, but if you wanna start pounding the bag hardcore style you better get some punching bag mitts as well. so wraps (are the bandage sort of thing you see rocky wrap round his hand before putting his hand in his glove)are necessary, and mitts too (get one fairly heavy, as if u punch quick with mitts you really will without ) here is a link to show you how to wrap you wrists (theres a special way!) and about boxing in general. oh yeah, if you want good cardio try and find a martial arts place. do the boxing one day, martial arts another. i did, the 2 complement each other, it's great cardio and you learn how to fight.

I'm interested in "hitting the bag" for some cardio too, anyone know where I could look around online for some good equipment??? NEVERMIND I used your link danielson www.boxingweb.com and found some great links I think I'll be ordering some equipment! If anyone has any tips please give them. I'm going to get a canvis heavy bag, punching mits, and handwraps. I could use some help on my form too. [This message has been edited by mb2001 (edited February 10, 2001).]

quote: i just got a canvas punchbag. downside was i had to haul it across london . i'm usually polite but at the end i was knocking old ladies over to get to the train im not sure if this is necessarily true, but i prefer the PVC bags, as when you uppercut them, you get much better grip and punches in general skim of less. They also dont absorb dirt and crap etc. just a thoght, but if i could of been shagged (no cash) i would have got a PVC bag. as for getting good form, try this link out for size shows you how to throw the punches. they'll feel stupid at first but after a while youll get some nice power behind them
