Whenever I do bent-legged deadlifts, I feel it only in my ass and legs, but I keep seeing them described as a back exercise. I don't feel anything in my back at all (straight-legged is another story). Am I doing something wrong?

Sounds like you are doing something wrong. Try to not bend your knees so much and see what that does for you. When you pick it up off the ground or when you are in the bottom position you use the power of your legs to bring it up and then your back. You should feel it primarily in your back. Mine is sore as hell right now and my "upper glutes" are too. ------------------

Make sure when you deadlift you climb the wall w/ your eyes. In other words start out w/ your back straight in the bottom position, then as you lift keep looking higher on the wall and eventually to the ceiling. This will ensure that when you complete the lift you are straight, and your back must contract to keep this position. Obviously do not go to far w/ this technique, as you can fall backwards. But w/ caution this technique can aid in your endevaour. Good luck. |
