My right chest is a lot smaller and weaker than my left chest. It has been this way for about a year and I can't seem to fix it. What should I do?

First off, you only have one chest. You have right and left pecs, though.

Do you use dumbells or a barbell? I have always heard it is best to use dumbells to correct the problem. However, if you think about it, when using a barbell one side can't be much stronger than the other, especially with bench press or any other chest movement.

If you use barbells, your dominant side will take over. Use barbells as your second or third exercise and use less weight, but enough weight to really work your weak pec. Use dumbell presses and flyes(flat)as your main exercise. As you push the dumbells, don't bring them up above the middle of your chest but to the opposite side of the weak pec. This puts more stress on the weak side.

Dumbells - flies & presses. A machine or bar will not work auxillary muscles as much as no balance is required. A lagging side will not work as hard. I get the same thing on quads and so do my extentions single legged.

Give us your stats. This type of stuff doesn't usually occur with a seasoned lifter. How long have you been training?

I would not suggest doing flat dumbell press to anyone. I feel that one is short-changing themselves of a regular barbell exercise. That is just my opinion though. Stick with the bar.

This is very common for lifters early on. Let me guess, you're right arm is your dominant arm.....you're left pec is just being stimulated more intensely, b/c of the weakness of your left arm. Here is some sound advice, unless you are now 100 lbs stronger on the bench than where you started, don't worry about it, and definitely don't try to fix it now. Just keep getting stronger on your compound movements, work on your form (http://www.testosterone.net/html/body_115b600.html) and the imbalances (that are not genetically determined) will take care of themselves. 100% symmetry does not exist on the human body.
