I think everyone will agree that soreness and killer workouts go hand and hand. If this is the case, why don't my lats get sore? I get nice soreness in most areas after I work my back, but I never get sore in the lat area that extends down the side of my back. I'm looking for a good V-shape. Anyone have any killer lat exercises other than pull-ups? I'm starting to wonder if I am even hitting them at all. If you have any info on some good exercises to target the lats, let me know.

First off muscle soreness is not an indicator of growth.. You should read the topic "Muscle Soreness".

wide grip pull ups are the best for the v shape but if you dont like them strap some weight on and try it that way ph21 ------------------

I've always felt like my back is worked much better with medium-grip pull-ups. then add a heavy rowing motion (bb rows, t-bar rows) a set or two of cable-rows. don't forget that traps are a huge part in having an impressive back! I would recommend staying away from 1 arm back movements (1 arm dumbell row, 1 arm cable row etc.), IMO they are a waste of time. (I know, I know... but I that's my opinion.)

If you do T-Bars and bent-over rows correctly you should feel a lot of the stress in your lats. My lats are always sore from heavy T-Bars the next day, but you must be a stickler for perfect form when doing them or the workload will be directed everywhere but your lats and back. If you don't have great form on anything, then at least do your back exercises right. If you don't, it will never develop since it is very hard to isolate and requires mostly compound movements. ------------------ |
