I use my lifting straps. Instead of wrapping them around the bar I place the cloth over the spot of my hand that contacts the bar.

Harbringer standard leather gloves are the best.

i would try them on before u buy it,because their not all the same, some of them make it still hurt when u grip,i think its just a matter of personal preference, the ones i use are soft leather, the ones that are harder i didnt like the way it felt

girly, girly, girly, ladyboy. You should be a real man with calluses all over your hands. Gloves are for mincers.

I must admit, I use gloves for all motions where grip is essential. I can do a lot on rows and my hand get sore without protection. I have a nice office job making more money than both of my parents combined so I have no problem with nice soft hands... save the rough hands for construction workers :^)

I agree with the others as to not using gloves. Doesn't take very long to adapt. Hell, I'm the guy that advises people to squat barefoot, although only recommend this at home. Oh, and if you have a cushy office job, like some of us do, it's cool to be the only guy there with strong, manly looking hands. Also makes for a killer feel of a handshake.

It's a personal preference if you use, or don't use gloves. I say, if they benefit your lifting use them. If they don't benefit your lifiting don't use them. I think Harbinger makes good gloves, valeos suck. I recently bought a pair of gloves that have wrist straps attached to them. Someone at my gym was using them and loved em. They are helpful when pushing heavy dumbells to keep your wrists straight, so you can work your chest more instead of focusing on your wrists faltering. I was against them for a long time, thinking that if my wrist couldn't support the weight I shouldn't be lifting it, but I think I was wrong. Now, I like them, and I can get some pretty serious dumbbells up.

I read this post over the phone to my mom. She laughed and said that you should use purple ones with pink poke-a-dots. She is a powerlifter from way back. She is like me...just partial to not wearing them. B True

If you're wearing gloves to keep your hands soft, don't. You'll get callouses anyway. If it does benifit your lifting, don't hesitate, use them.

"girly, girly, girly, ladyboy. You should be a real man with calluses all over your hands. Gloves are for mincers" if i had not posted u wouldnt have said that,i know that was directed toward me(because of what happened awhile ago on the other topic).... calluses take away from your workout, the calluses that hurt might distract your sets because of the pain, they definetly mess me up on a backwork, then when u see a female, what is she gonna think when u have huge shit on your hand, its embarresing, but then again everyone is different u might be able to lift and never get a callouoes or feel pain, your lucky,i think that is not most people oh yea the reason i was saying dont just buy any glove without trying it ,their was another reason, not just the feeling but i remember the set of gloves i bought along time ago(approx 3 years ago) i got a huge rash for at least a week, but the rash didnt happen the first time i wore it ,i think it happened at least a month after i bought it,so then trying it on at the store wouldnt really help that, but i think it still good to try it on for feel [This message has been edited by chillin408 (edited January 28, 2001).]

Hey...just wan to apologize for my comment. Don't mean to flame anyone. I do not like gloves. I like the feel of the bar on my hands. Couldn't imagine working out with gloves...that's all. B True

The best to use as either gloves, straps or nothing are 'Versa Gripps' They are by far the best assistance product for bodybuilding that has ever been made. I use them when I need 'em as straps for shrugs, rows etc. Then they double as palm protectors when doing presses and if your partial to that, you can just turn them on your wrist and use your bare hands. I'll never go back to gloves or straps knowing the help these offer me. Although this sounds like a commercial, it's not! I just fully support the design and I am thankful they made such a product. 10 of my buddies have tried them out so far since I got them and they all got a pair for themselves, saying the same thing as I. Check 'em out. You can find 'em cheap on the internet. Use any search engine and look for them by the name. ------------------ Rock On!

Don't buy them they just stink up your gymbag. Take the advice from the guys who use straps. The calluses will help you grip the bar better
