Any of you guys have any experience with the ten sets of ten method? A buddy of mine tried it for a couple of months and showed some visible size gains in his arms and chest but actually lost about 12 lbs. on his max for bench...

Did it on squats and chin ups with a minute break in between. It was tough after the last set on squats I would always collapse onto the ground for ten minutes unable to move. If anything it cut my legs up. If you want a short workout this is the way to go because after you've finished you won't be in the mood to do much else. In twenty minutes you can finish your leg workout.

Intensity is the key to growth not a written list of sets/reps. pretty much any workout method will work if you put your "heart" into it.

And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

I put some teamates of mine on it in the off-season. It will actually make you weaker in terms of 1rm and explosiveness. If you eat enough though, you will get some pretty good size gains. The training provides a good conitioning base for later strength and explosiveness phases.

I personally am mostly fast twitch, and could only handle about 35% 1rm in hitting the 10*10 rep bracket. The program did work okay when I switched to ten sets of 5-6 reps.

If you do it, really put emphasis on the leg day. One of the guys went back to the program but dogged legs...he didn't make any gains.

also don't do the GVT 2000 thing. The real poliquin program is much better.

I do 6 sets of 10 on squats with 225 about once a year or two for a month or two straight. I do full squats and us a piston like motion with 60 seconds rest between sets. I do seem to lose a little max strength though. Last time I did this I worked up to doing 300 for 6 sets of 10. I scrapped the 60 sec rest thing thoug. Very hard. I remember walking out into the snow after my 5th set, falling down, puking, getting back up and doing my 6th set.

Intense.

My buddies and I tried it and we all had the same results as you guys did...after 8 weeks everyone had put on a little size and definition but was anywhere from 5-15lbs weaker on our 1RM...

Let see if I got this straight, I can bore my self with countless sets, spend 3 or 4x the amount of time in the gym as I should, subject my self to overtraining, and I will have a LOSS of strength to show for it.... if you can convince people to do this, you should ask Joe Weider for a job.

German Volume Training sho is a fancy name for ****! Maybe I better stick to a workout that adds size AND strength.
