i've read that a muscle can't tell the difference between a machine and a barbell, machines target specific muscles as do free weights when done correctly, machines don't train stablizers like free weights, which do you like better and why? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I'm a big fan of free weights. I feel if they could have gotten anything else that produced better gains they would have gotten rid of them. Other then that I'm just a throw back to the caveman and enjoy the feel of free weights. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

For bodybuilding purposes, I believe if you include an adequate volume and intensity in your training, it doesn't matter. I have attained a good level of size and muscularity(225lbs at 5%fat) from machines alone. Now that I am in a "bulking" phase(300lbs at 12%fat), I do more free weights because I like the feel of throwing around some heavy iron. But it's just a mental thing and I think you can get just as big on machines. Scientifically, there's no reason to think otherwise. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Nothing compares to free weights as far as I'm concerned. Machines have their place but if I had to choose I'd go free weights. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
