Smack your pecs and tell 'em to shut the fuck up. Then let them recover. Don't train two days in a row. You WILL overtrain bro ------------------

I read that if you train the same body part for two days in a row it may be effective but only do this once in a while just to shake the body up. Books usually say don't train the same body part until 72 hours have elapsed or you no longer have any pain.

if you must train them on saturaday, stick to push-ups.

I used to feel the same way often. I found what works for me is using Pre-Exhaustion. I'm sure you must have heard of it. With Pre-Exhaustion,the idea is to "pre-exhaust" the muscles you are trying to work by first performing a single-joint exercise, and then following up with a multi-joint exercise. You didn't say what exercises you were doing for chest. Maybe your chest isn't getting a full pump because your triceps are weakening first, not allowing your chest to work to it's full potential? If something like this is the cause, pre exhaustion will help eliminate this. Does this make sense? Try Pre-Exhausting your chest using an isolation exercise, maybe something like a bent arm fly. Then move onto compound movements that incorporate more muscles, like bench press, dips, incline press, etc. You will definately notice the difference, and this can be used for every exercise you do. Try it once bro, and I can guarantee your chest will NOT be begging for more a day or two down the road.

I've always follwed my instincts and listened to my body, sometimes contrary to what convetional wisdom and even science told me. I gauage my workout's quality by the pump I get and I look for a super-pump every time I train and for every bodypart on its given day. However, if you really bomb your chest on chest day, you should be so sore the next couple of days that the last thing you will want to do is pump your pects. So just kick some ass on chest day and don't hit it again for at least a few days. And you should still get your "pump fix" that way. ------------------

Bottom line, if you can train your chest two days in a row, YOU ARE NOT TRAINING HARD ENOUGH, OR YOUR NOT TRAINING PROPERLY! I dont give a shit if your on AS or not, training any bodypart two days in a row is not going to do you any good. Anyone who tells you different shouldnt be posting advice on this board, period!!!!

I sort of train my chest twice a week. On wednesday, I do chest with lower back. However, I don't include Bench press in this workout. Friday, I have my power day (bench, squat, deads). I've experienced significant growth from this. But as for doing 2 full chest workouts, doesn't sound too smart.

Two day in a row. . .I don't train any major body part more than 1x a week. . .calves, abs, traps and forearms are the only exeptions. ------------------

do lots of squats. you will lose all urge to do extra training that is not needed.

Uh, of course that's bad. You're overtraining your chest. It has no time to recover from one day's onslaught if you are pounding it immediately the next day. The muscle isn't supposed to "feel" like they can't be pumped any more in order for them to be sufficiently worked. My legs haven't been sore a single day in the past 5 weeks. I train them once a week and they are STILL growing. Your chest will do the same. -Warik

If you take the extra recovery and work up to pressing big weights, and not just pumping, you will get plenty sore. The key is getting strong enough to reach that point.

yea same here with legs ,and all other body parts except chest and triceps,i dont know why,i was just thinking if i pound it 2 days in a row, then i still have 5 days to recover then pound it again 2 days in a row if needed or switch every other week doing it ,something lik ethat

Maybe you should consider doing more than 3 exercises on your chest day. After you're done with your bench work, i.e. flat, incline, decline or dumbells, consider hammer strength, as they tend to go easier on the delts if that's your concern. Also, flye's will rips your chest, and give you a huge pump, and they really isolate the pecs. Also, pec dec, and cable crossovers, and flye machines isolate. It sounds like you're just not doing enough on your original chest day. If you continue to train chest two days in a row, you will overtrain, and your muscles will NOT grow! Good question, though, I was guilty of doing the same thing in the past, and for the same reasons as you. If I do need to train chest more than once per week it would be a full chest workout on Monday, and light chest with tri's and bi's on Friday. Then, at least I would still have two complete days off before getting back to a heavy chest day on Monday. Remember, if you train muscles like chest two days consecutively, you're not giving your muscles any recovery time, and they can't repair themselves, which is one of the keys to body building. |
