Everyone knows cardio is best in the morning on an empty stomach. I just started doing 20 minutes of moderate cardio 5 days a week every morning, and then waiting an hour before eating breakfast. I also lift for about an hour, on the same days, in the early evening. After my 5 days, I take 2 days off to recuperate. How many calories would this actually help me burn every day? I was hoping to up my calories by about 200-300 per day in order to help build/preserve lean mass. Plus the morning cardio seems to just make me hungrier later in the day. Would I still lose fat from the morning cardio or would I just be cancelling out those extra calories? Drop me the knowledge! Thanks.

I just started doing that also. But I do higher intensity 20min 3 days per week. Dont pay attention to whatthe readout says. When you do cardio in the am it bumps up your whole metabolism so your actually burning more than 200 calories. It took 200 calories to walk 20min but your burning a lot more calories overall.

Your metabolism will be faster for several hours after stopping the cardio.

I do not like doing cardio in the morning because I think that it takes too much from my strength and workouts. I like doing cardio at the end of my lifting. I would only suggest doing cardio in the am before breakfast to someone on gear and who has a lot of muscle to begin with. My 2 cents B True

Just wanted to say that since I starte doing morning cardio, I definately have more energy all the time. The first couple of times were hard, but now my body wakes up every day at the same time and is ready to go!

In your original post you said. "Everyone knows cardio is best in the morning on an empty stomach". I agree with you that cardio in the morning is excellent, because it does speed up your metabolism, and does continue to burn fat. However, you will burn some muscle doing this if your intensity is strong enough. I have experience with. I did it in the morning on an empty stomach until I reach my weight goals, but my bench press was going nowhere. If your body is in a fasting state from the previous evening until after your morning workout too many hours have passed until you have any nutrition, which is very important for lifting. Once you've burned through all of the reserved carbo's and fat stored from the previous day, you'll surely start burning muscle. Of course, you won't have as much energy for lifting after a moderate to heavy cardio workout. For myself, and my goals, when I was cutting bf, and trying to lose weight, I did 3 days cardio for 45 minutes, and 3 days lifting. Then, took Sunday off. I started taking a MRP before my workout, so I could sustain high intensity during my training (cardio, or resistance). Then, like you, I would eat within one hour after training. Usually, a MRP. If you insist, on training on an empty stomach, you should eat before you go to bed, and try to eat six small meals per day. BTW, now I train 2 days cardio, and 4 days weights, on different days, and I'm still getting bigger, but my waist stay a healthy 32". Don't worry about upping your caloric intake too much if you eat properly, every 2 to 3 hours, protein, carbo's, and fat every meal. Your metabolic rate will skyrocket!

I would say cardio in the morning is an excellent idea. Have a protein drink just before you do your cardio and as soon as you finish. Don't wait too long to eat after you finish your cardio. If you plan to increase your fat loss, i.e. a deficit of more than 200-300 calories a day then I think you need to start counting calories. An energy deficit over 200 calories is usually noticed by your body and stimulates your appetite. If you are deficiting say 500-1000 calories a day I believe it is important to count calories to make sure you don't just eat them again after you've exercised them off. Everyone's body responds differently so trial and error is probably the best way to work out what is going to work for you.

Don't eat anything before morning cardio. That is when your stomach is empty and when the cardio will be more of a benefit for speeding the metabolism and assisting the fat burning process. ------------------

I've heard mixed opinions on wether or not you should have a protein drink before morning cardio. I just stick to water and that's it.

I also drink just water.. I also heard not to eat for an hour afterwards, and during this time, your body is mainly burning fat for fuel.

your not even suppose to have protein before morning cardio to get the full benfit,i read it still brings insulin response, not as much as eating carbs would, but it still does, water and eca are the only things u can have before morning cardio to get the full benifit

I am really confused about this whole morning cardio thing. Protein before or not? Eat right after or an hour later? 20 minutes or 1 hour? Intense or moderate? I guess the answers would vary from person to person according to what their individual goals were, their genetics and metabolism, and their personal experience and results... not to mention supplematary AS use. I for one am going on a 10 week cutting cycle soon, and I'm gonna take Primo Depot, Winny Depot, Clen, ECA, and Triacana. I'm gonna workout 4 afternoons a week, and as far as cardio goes, I think I'm going to try the following: 6 mornings a week on an empty stomach, moderate/high intensity, for 45 minutes each time. I'm gonna wait anywhere from 30 min to 1 hour to eat, depending on how hungry I feel. Also, I'm not gonna eat carbs after 6pm. I'll keep ya'll posted as to how this works for me. ------------------

I don't like to eat anything untill at least an hour afterwards. After some intense cardio, i'll be sweating for an hour or more afterwards. |
