Ive never done chin ups before but im going to have them in my next bulking cycle.Im just wondering which way your palms are supposed to face. Also whats the difference (if any) between palms facing toward your bady and away from your body? What muscles do the different variations like wide grip and close grip target?

wider the grip (palms out)= more back involvement
closer the grip (palms in)= more bicep involvement

chins are superior to pulldowns btw.

Chins are a great exercise. Superior than pulldowns? Well, that all depends. If you can't do at least 10 chins in a slow controlled motion, I recommend sticking to pulldowns and develope your strength from that movement. Once you're stronger and can do chins easily, then switch to chins.

I stick to palms away for at least three sets on back day and, if I'm in the mood, I'll trow in a set or two of the palms-facing-me version. When you perform them palms-away, be sure to keep arms and elbows back and in your frontal plane. Imagine pushing your elbows down intead of pulling yourself up. This will maximize lat recruitment and limit bicep involvement. Also, I like to use straps and a false grip (thumbs over), because my biceps like to take over on all my back work.

"PULLUPS" that is what their called, not chins. They are two completely different excersises. To work your back, assuming you can not do 10 reps, try using a wieght belt with 10lbs and try to get a few reps with a good negative. By doing this it will make your natural bodywieght feel lighter. I rarely see guys who claim to do pullups, do them correctly let alone for over 10 reps. These are the quintessential excersise for back!!!!!

i use to be able to do 16-18 with good rhythem and form, but after taking 4 months off,i still havent got it back, all my other lifts are back, except for pull ups ,and ive been working out the last 3 months,i have been stuck on around 7-10 pull ups, with horrible form,im yanking myself up basically, and its been like this the last 2 months,i havent been able to put on any more reps, have any suggestions so i can get back to 16-18 area,

i asked the anabolic extreme board awhile back, and someone said to do 50 of them( do as many then rest, then try again till u get 50), i did this for 20..2 weeks, then 25,the last 2 weeks, but it hasnt helped any,i feel like im getting a better back workout, but thats about it

i would use the weight, but its embarresing, cuz i have a hard time doing bodyweight, people will probably be thinking what r u doing adding extra weight
