whats your gym like? what id like to know most is what machines and stuff its got, eg shower, steamroom, sauna, sunbeds. and how much you pay. my gym is a bit shit. theres no membership and none of the above mentioned apart from a shower and it costs 3pound to get in, ( i think thats about $5 )thinking about it though, if i go three or four a week thats 9-12pound x 52=over 500pound a year( erm, i think $900)for that price i could get a membership in a big boss gym, i was thinking of FITNESS FIRST, dont know if you guys have them over there but what do you think, should i join a "posh" gym?

My gym has two floors. On the first floor there is a bunch of free weights (barbells, dumbells, 2.5, 5, 10, 25, 35, 45, 100 plates , benches, Smith Machines, Power Rack, Nautilus and Hammer Strength Equipment. On the top floor there is cardiovascular equipment (treadmills, elliptical machines, stair climbers, stationary bikes, rowing machines). They don't have saunas or hot tubes, but they do have showers. And that is all I need to satisfy my lifting needs. ------------------ Check out http://pub30.ezboard.com/bhitsgymofbodybuilding -HB-

When you walk in there's offices and a daycare on the left, to the right a proshop and the desk. Straight ahead are locker rooms and to the back left is the basketball court. On the far right is the weight room. It has about 20 or so free weight benches (incline, decline, flat, and the chair things). 2 sets of dumbells...hardcore dumbells and 1 set of pansy dumbells lol. 2 sets of pre wielded ez curl bars. 1 set of pre weilded standard bars. Lots of hammer strength equipment, leg presses, squat racks etc. A great place to go for serious bodybuilders. Plenty of macines but primarily free weights. Plenty of barbell benches and a metal box with chalk in the middle, the chalk provided by management. Upstairs is a 1/14 mile track and in the middle is the the cardio eqipment plus 9 televisions. The place used to be in a shack basically and was very hardcore. Now with the addition of the track and court they're attracting a new breed of pansies lol. The gym is part of a plaza, there are 5 other buildings in the plaza. One is for sports therapy, one a tan and hair salon and another a sports store, and a martial arts center. Its open 24/7 and now they only sell one year memberships. WE have the deal where its deducted 34 dollars a month from checking account.

My gym has three floors. First floor has free weights, Hammer Strength, gravitron, basically anything upper body. In the front of the gym on the first floor is reception area with a juice bar. I have my MRP'S mixed up there after each workout. I go early mornings 5:00 a.m. and I am friends with the clerk. He mixes up my MRP with spring water or juice for free. (an awesome bonus)In the back is an aerobics room with spinning classes, aerobics, and body pump classes. Same floor is a swimming pool,(not olympic size though) co-ed steam room, co-ed sauna, co-ed jacuzzi. Lockers, and showers also (not co-ed) Upstairs is all cardiovascular. Treadmills, lifecycles, Precor elliptical crosstrainers, stair steppers, lifefitness crosstrainers with heart rate monitors, cycles with internet access for free, and televisions. Bottom floor is all lower body workout equipment, for legs and abs. There's about 5000 members. Average rate to join is about $450- year. Although there are many plans for discounts including health insurance, etc. I get a corporate rate from my company for $250- a year. I think it's a heck of a bargain! i'm from the U.K. as well. My gyms 20 quid a YEAR. It's not that good, the free weights date back to the 60's i think, its got a smith machine, bechpress, shoulder press, leg press and cable machines, rowing machines, ski machines, 2 excercise bikes, a punch bag and a speedball. And a crusty hi-fi (but you can choose the music). --> don't get me wrong though i luv it. It's never crowded, is peaceful, and it has everything i'll need. Though they could try wiping the sweat marks of the wall Try a 'Holmes Place'. will get membership easily under what your paying, and are full the brim with chromed bars (sigh), and masseuists, machines, swimming pools etc. Not sure if theyre only in london, they may have 1 or 2 up in scouseland hope this helps [This message has been edited by danielson (edited December 20, 2000).]

When you walk in the door you smell the kerosene from the heater. There is a layer of carpet on the concrete floor. About 12'x15'. 2 Barbells, 4 adjustable dumbells, 1 power rack, one bench with leg ext/leg curl attachment. Grown a lot in that gym, but winter is hard. Gets cold in the garage, but I will weigh 300lbs from all the hard work in that place. Never forget that it is not about the fancy new chrome plated piece of equipment in your gym, it is how hard you work the basic exercises that make you grow. B True

Trust me on this one; stick with the backstreet dirty hovel gyms, they are the best. As long as all the basic equipment is there you will grow. Fancy chromed machines will do no better for you, just cost more. My gym is dirty, smelly and old in an old mill. The owner has had it a few years now but before he got it, it had mouldy walls, flakey paint, damp, cold, broken windows etc. It also had one of the best training atmospheres anywhere. The new owner has spent a lot of money on it though. He has put new carpet in, painted everything like new, got some new machines and cardio stuff. He's just fitted a sauna but as he cleans it up and puts in more fitness equipment, the atmpsphere is dying. A lot of the old bodybuilders have left. A similar thing happened at the gym I used to train at about 7 years ago and now its just full of rich spandex slobs. Every time I have been to a posh fitness gym such as David Lloyd, I am the biggest there, which is no good to me if I wanna be motivated to grow even bigger. I've recently been looking at different gyms myself (hardcore ones!)

I just moved from the east coast to the west coast(sd cali)the gym I came from was pretty nice but it didnt have the feel that this one has. Where I came from there were only a handful of semi-serious bodybuilders and the dumbbells only went up to 125 but here I have dumbs that go up to 200 and 5 dif. types of machines for every bodypart. There are alot more competitive bodybuilders out here and only 10 minutes to the border. (Paradise)The Gym is a flat fee $300 a year me and my wife joined for $500 cant beat that anywhere. |
