I just started doing military presses with barbell. I can only do like 75 for 2 sets of 6. I used to do dumbell press. Which one is better for mass? ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I prefer dumbells for military press. I also really like doing military press on a smith machine, you can go heavy doesn't aggitate my shoulder at all. It also works well because I usually workout solo, and I don't trust a random spotter on shoulder work. dumbells and barbell will both get the job done as far as working for mass. you'll get the same age old argument about what's better: range of motion or maximum weight, I'd say why not get the best of both worlds? 2 sets of dumbell, 2 sets of barbell? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I prefer dumbbell presses due to the more maximal contraction at the top (you can bring them together and really squeeze those delts), but this requires a fairly trustworthy spotter. Seated militaries on a Smith are my next choice, 'cause you can go heavy as hell and not worry about going to failure without a spotter but range of motion is a little more limited. I usually stay with one or the other per shoulder day and then switch to other next time. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I do both. It's always good to keep changing your workouts though. I like straight barbell without Smith Machine, because you know exactly what you're lifting, and not relying on the machine. But I would never do barbell militaries without my partner, escpecially considering some fairly heavy weights, too dangerous. See which ones you like better, they're both a thousand times better than any machine you could use. But don't hesitate alternate them on your workout days. This morning I happened to do both, but generally one or the other. The both recruit front and middle delts. Bent over raises are excellent for rears.(seated or standing) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Thanks fellas. I started doing barbell military like I said and I like them. We have several of the racks that are made specially for them with the faiulure bars and what not. Whenever i'm reaching failure I just bring it over my head and rest it on the bar. Again, kinda dangerous but i'll probably change it up a little. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I always like to keep a variety. I do heavy barbell military presses, dumbell military presses, even Hammer Strength Shoulder Presses. For mass, I believe that both barbell and dumbell military presses are the best. ------------------ Check out http://pub30.ezboard.com/bhitsgymofbodybuilding -HB- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I like to do clean and presses. I believe in making the movement as compound as possible. By cleaning it before you press it, it becomes more compound for your shoulders. Just give it a try, it takes a few weeks to build any type of strength with these. email if you need help B True ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
