hi guys, a little help please. im 22 about 5'9 and weigh 145lbs. i have been training for about 1 year now, problem is i still pain the next couple of days. everyone tells me that pain is good because the muscle has been destroyed and will grow back stronger, but sometimes when i do legs for example, i can hardly walk the next day. i train with afriend who is 36 years old and has been training for 15 years. i do 2 body parts per session, and have 3sessions per week. for each body part i do 4 different excercise consisting of 4 sets of 8-10 reps. is this about right? am i doing too much or not enough?. this takes us about an hour and a half and then we have something to eat afterwards. i should also mention i started on steroids (methandro-stenolon) about 6 mths ago. i take 4 tabs a day which i think is about 2mg. i have started to notice a bit of improvement in muscle, but not a lot and nowhere near as quickly as i expected it. any advice welcome...cheers in advance

Depends what kind of pain it is. It's okay to be sore after a workout. When I started training I used to get sore all the time, this is back when I was into high volume training. I made pretty good gains. I started HIT and I still do get sore. But sometimes after a workout, I'm not sore at all. The truth of the matter is that you don't always have to be sore in order to still progress. Being sore is not a sign of muscle growth. As long as you are getting stronger, you're okay. The moment when you start losing strength, you are doing something wrong or you need a break. I believe for a drug free trainee, the amount of sets and exercises is too much. Since you're using gear, I cannot give you good advice, because I have no experience with gear. Take care and good luck with your training. ------------------ Check out http://pub30.ezboard.com/bhitsgymofbodybuilding -HB-

"(methandro-stenolon) about 6 mths ago" Oh dear! pssssst HEY BUDDY!!! those are not steriods those are pro-whormones. (psssst, stop wasting your money. you won't need any "steriod" assistence until your about 185-200lbs. ) if you are doing 4 ex. 4 sets of 8-10 for EVERY MUSCLE in the body that is too much. did I mention that you have to Eat, Eat, Eat to gain weight? ------------------ quote:

I remember a while ago i was reading an article on muscles in a science book, and it said something like if you dont eat enough carbs after a workout your muscles tend become more sore than usual, i cant exactly remember why it said this, but i know that if i dont eat well after a workout im sore as fuck the next day. Also i normally do 10-15 min warm down after most exercises, especially legs, i do mostly aerobic sort of shit or just jog on the treadmill, doing it this way i find that im normally fairly right the next day. NOT THAT I EXPECT NOT TO BE SORE THE NEXT DAY, YOU DONT GO TO GYM FOR 2 HOURS JUST TO PERVE AT THE BIRDS, well maybe a bit.

You should be out of the gym in about half the time you spend in there bro. You started the M-S 6 months ago? Can you give me more specifics on your use? You haven't been taking it for 6 months non-stop have you? ------------------

After you're done beating the fuck out of the dude at your gym, go buy ANABOLICS 2000, and do a lot of research on the juice. ------------------

Your training volume is bit too high for your experience level and to be drug free. Speaking of drug free, I like the rat piss idea. Muscle soreness is more or less a function of lactic acid buildup within the tissue during training, but to be totally honest, what muscle soreness indicates above and beyond that is still somewhat of a mystery even to the exercise science community. The only thing I know for sure about soreness is that it will always accompany an extra intense workout or new exercise stimuli and it has never killed anybody. Eat like a maniac, keep protein levels high, cut back on a few sets per bodypart and allow the soreness to be a confirmation of your manhood and desire to improve...and kick that guy's ass that snaked you on the prohormones (wait a while on the gear). Good luck! ------------------

thanks for all the advice guys!!!just to let you know, ive decided to give the steroids a miss, for a couple of years anyway.the guy a the gym hasnt been in for a couple of days...oops...im a novice when it comes to the type of foods i should be eating and how often. from what people have told me its like, rice, chicken, pasta, tuna, anything else? also 6 small meals a day seems to have come up several times, sound about right?

I'm glad you decided to wait on the steroids. Most athletes don't begin AS cycles until they've reached their full natural potential, which should take no less than 3 years. Many do not opt for AS at all. As far as the food, you're right about 6 small meals a day. This will keep your metabolism high, and fat low. Best sources of food protein, are turkey, chicken, tuna, and lean steak. As far as rice, try steamed brown rice, avoid fried rice, eat baked potatoes, and sweet potatoes, are excellent complex carbohydrates, and fresh fruit. Drink tons of water. Eat at least two servings of vegetables daily. If you want to build size and gain weight you have to eat more calories than you're burning on a daily basis. You need to choose which calories you will put into your body. If you eat clean, (the above mentioned foods) you should not gain fat. But don't be too concerned about a little fat, we do need some fat in our diets. If you gain a little, and your trying to gain size (bulking cycle), especially this time of year, then you can always do a cutting cycle come spring time and get cut up for the summer. I think it's good that you ask about nutrition, because without good nutrition, your results suffer in some way or another while training, no matter how hard you train. As far as pain, water will help with that also and will help avoid cramping. But it's important to stretch after workouts too. That will help get rid of the lactic acid that gets built up, especially after cardio, and high reps, or a good solid intense pump. Liquid protein, or MRP's will also help with recovery, as will glutamine. Avoid saturated fats, like any fried foods. Best of luck with your training and eating!

I hardly ever get sore after a workout, but my workouts are intense as hell and my muscles still grow at what I would say is an above average pace. Basically I stretch beforehand, and between sets, keep moving. By keeping moving between sets you decrease lactic acid buildup in your muscles. Don't just sit there and catch your breath. Move! Finish off your workout with a cool down period and then have a good protein/carb shake. |
