Can anyone help diagnose this? My right shoulder hurts only when i bench press. Mostly when I am at the bottom of the movent pressing up, but all through it to some extent. It's a dull ache, but pretty strong. It seem sorta in the back part of the shoulder, like where the shoulder meets the shoulder blade. Anyway, it hurts only on bench press, nothing else, even shoulder (military)press! It does not hurt in everyday life (except a little today since I benched yesterday). I did cable flyes instead of bench for the last couple of sets cuz it hurt so much (flyes did not hurt nearly as much, just a little). Is this rotator cuff? Should I just avoid benching for a couple of weeks, in case it is merely inflamed? Are there any exercices I can be doing to help? Is it in any danger of like tearing or something? Thanks.

It might be the rotator cuff. don't bench for a while. I had a similar occurance in my left shoulder, I ditched bench press. It only hurts on the last couple reps and my left shoulder always fails before my right. ------------------ quote:

If it is in the back of the shoulder blade it could be an irritated bursa sac behind the shoulder blade. If it is on the top or outside of the shoulder area and you have popping sounds, that could be rotators. If it rotators, lay off benching for a while. Get the swelling down. Then start to do some exercises called L-Flyes. If it is the bursa behind the shoulder blade you still may have stop benching and get that swelling down. Irritated bursa take a while to heal. ------------------

I had the same problem as you did a while back. I had a pain while incline benching. The pain kept getting worst and worst until one day I seperated my shoulder military pressing. Don't take it lightly like I did, you should go see a doctor and he'll probably prescribed some Naproxen or something. Don't ignore the problem, it won't go away on its own.

Try doing rotator cuff exercises with the 5lb dumbells before every workout. Warm your shoulders up totally before every workout also. Make sure that your shoulder blades are in the proper position for bench pressing...touching. B True
