If sombody trained hard and gained a few pound of muscle but then stopped training and lost most of it, would the muscle come back quicker when they started training again?

It depends on how long the person took off from lifting and how old they are. But in general, Yes their muscle will come back fairly quickly. This is due to what is known as muscle memory. As we age, muscle memory starts to decline but it's still there to a certain extent. Muscle memory is a complex issue and I could get technical but compare the human body to a computer and think of muscle memory as computer chips all throughout your body. Now think of the time you spend in the gym as programming these chips. Now if you take a few days or evern a week off, the programming is basically still in tact. The bottom line is, is the amount of time a person takes off from lifting they need to spend approximately the same amount of time re-gaining what they lost. Some people require less time and others require a little more time. ------------------ Train......................(S)mart

The ability for a person to regain their lost muscle after being away from training all depends on the persons experiance level with lifting. If you are a novice and been away for a while then it would be harder to attain the same muscle mass. If have been training for many years than your gains are more concrete and it will be easier for you to reach your previous size or goal. |
