Even though I love the feeling my lats get from chins, I hate doing them. I weigh 290 and growing, and it is hard as heck to do many reps. Anyone else on here weigh a lot and still do chins? Thanks B True

keep at it!! chins are the best for the lats. END OF STORY. just crank them out. they are superior to any pull-down, or for matter any other back movement. I find that the close-medium grip parallel handles are the best. your like 6'2" 290 right? you outwiegh me by 100lbs but I'm 5'7" GOOD LUCK!

Yeah, midgets like Valdez and I can show off by adding plates to a dip belt when we chin. I guess there is some advantage to weighing under 2 bills...

no shit!?! I went through a phase of trying to do those, could only get it on a tumble track. I have a good vert, but just didn't have the guts to spin it.

Fair play to you bro, I hate chins, my training partner has AWESOME lats, he does barbell bent over rows, and can shift massive weights this way (reps with 400lbs) he swears by them, I dont do them either, just happy with the lat develoment I get from seated cable rows. ------------------

Don't get me wrong...my back is probably my best body part, but I just hate doing chins. Just wondering if anyone else on here did low reps for chins. B True

hey if you get a better workout from rows or lat pulldowns than do them. try this the best of both worlds chins-max reps than go to the lat pulldown machine and do 8-12reps to failure do two series like this and your lats will be fried remember no rest in between the two excercises hope this helps big bear

I've done 3 45 pound plates on a belt for sets of 4 (no straps, no jerking, full range of motion), and have a very wide back. For thickness though you have to do your rows! I didn't for a while, and got a slump-shouldered look.

quote: that is a very good idea, infact that is exactly what I did to increase the amount of reps I could get with chins. works like a charm. p.s. I've had a little gymnastics training, most guys I've seen get the balls to try a flip on flat ground... yeah, not good outcomes! OUCH! |
