in my oppinion if you are going to work out with limited sets you need to work your body to the limit not with 1set to failure.here is a sample chest workout i have done in the past and have gotten good results

benchpress-rest pause
incline flys [drop set]
dips 5-8reps [negative emphasis]
this is done in a tri-set fashion this workout blasts the chest like no other

Well said Bfold, you just kinda know when you've done everything possible.
I always feel like a beast after all of my sets, if not I know I failed.
