I have started weightlifting for awhile now and I have noticed that I am much stronger than most of my friends on exercises that use my triceps, but weaker on exercises that use my biceps. I'd like to get some comments about what is considered a well rounded body? For example, if you can do X pounds bench press, what is a general Y pounds for dumbell curls, or Z pounds for squats? Any comments would be great, as I would like to achieve a symmetrical looking body as well as a massive body.

forget "x, y, z, etc." blah blah blah. strength is relative, and arbitrary (considering goals) my suggestion is look in the mirror. do you look good??? if yes, then way to go, if NO, then work the muscles that need to get bigger.

Alot of people fall into that - if you bench this you should be able to squat that or if you body weight is this you should be able to bench this much. It's all crap - 'cause my current weight is 230 w/about 14% bf. I can deadlift 425 and squat 405 but can't bench more than 315. So, it's all about what your body can do - not how much your weight is or how much you squat. Just put everything you have into all your lifts - more into those ares you consider "weaker" and continue to grow. Hope this helps.

The guys are right. But if you do want a ratio, the well rounded arm should be 2/3 tricep, 1/3 bicep... or so i've been told.

I work out using the HIT method, I also consider my biceps a weak point. I train 3 days a week and add 1 day extra a week to focus only on my biceps. It is working, they are catching up to the rest of me. I think having a balanced physique is important to your overall look.

What about the old rule of thumb for symmetry? Neck, arms, and calves should be pretty much the same.

The old rule of thumb! yeah it's all about the symmetry. but he's asking about strength which is not "cut and dry" and not "surface level" as is the bodies appearance. ------------------ quote:

Valdez, Yeah, but I'm not sure I can connect symmetry and strength like that. If you're talking about balanced strength, that is more of a powerlifting issue, like a good bench, squat, and deadlift. Flex Wheeler is known for his symmetry but isn't necessarily super strong, while Markus Ruhl is very strong, but not all that symmetrical. Cool pic of Franco, by the way! He was awesome! If anybody ever combined strength and body symmetry, it was him. |
