I f*ck up my shoulder a few months ago. The doc said it was bursitus. I have laid off the gym for quite some time (this is driving me nut 'cause I want to go in!). I am on 800 mg of ibruprofin (3 times a day) for 3 months. My shoulder still tender but not as much. How long should it take to heal? I'm thinking of going back to the doc and have him give me a cort shot! Any ideas??

I'm sure you already know, the problem with a cort shot is it's temporary and repeated shots can cause damage to the tissues. Unfortunately, this kind of pain is something atheletes deal with as they age. Speaking from personal experience, stick to the anti-inflammatories and work out light for a while. And you may have to face the possibility of never maxing out again.

That's what I don't want to hear. A guy in the gym said that he ended up having surgury and his shoulders are better than ever. Any one hear of that??

I'd ease back into it.

You might have a rotator cuff tear. The only
way you know for sure is to get a MRI. I have
already been there. Had the surgery and it
the original pain, but after 1 year I still
feel some of the post surgery pain. But at
this time I am lifting what I was lifting
prior to the tear (which was a very small
tear). Go back to your doctor and have the
shoulder rechecked. Hope this helps a little.

Thx Lucky - I have an apointment this Wed. My shoulder feels alot better but I have quit the gym and taking gelatine (knox) along with glocosamine/chondroitin. Aply some heat and it feels better. It still hurts every once in a while but my plan (body willing) is to go back intot the gym the 1st of the year. I know I can do other things in the gym but I would be tempted to lift. So for now I do cardio with the wife.
