I just read about this approach to training at ironmanmagazine and it makes a lot of sense. it says you need to icorporate three types of exercises for each muscle group in a specific order in order to achieve a full range of motion and optimal growth. First you start with a midrange movement like the dumbell curls, for biceps, which uses other muscles to help and allows you to move the most weight. You follow that up with a stretch movement, which for biceps would be dumbell curls while sitting on an incline bench. Last you do and exercise that allows for peak contraction(preacher curls) You should follow this link and read the article. Its very interesting and worth your time. http://ironmanmagazine.com/ironman/training/POFbasics.htm

I have used POF in the past and found that it worked very well. On the other hand, I have had training partners who have gotten literally nothing from it. In my opinion it is like any other kind of training, some people see results, some people dont. I have also used the Ironman "size surge" program and it is very effective. In 10 weeks I gained 12 lbs of bodyweight and my jean waist size went from a 38 to a 36. ------------------

I use P.O.F. training with triceps (skulls, pressdowns, overhead extensions) but you you can only apply P.O.F. to multi-joint muscles. It's agood way to cover all the bases with a particular muscle. |
