OK guys, I'm having a hell of a time concentrating in the gym lately. I use an HIT program where I HAVE to be absolutely focused to make sure I reach momentary muscular failure (as a side note, I feel that a lot of people do NOT reach failure ever, because they are unfocused). For example, today. The gym I go to was fuckin packed it sucked. I work out alone, and I couldn't concentrate at all. I found my mind straying in the middle of hammer strength chest presses, and I do not think I went 'all the way'; so I compromised my ideas about volume and did two descending sets and a set of flys. How do you all concentrate? Is there a supp or anything that may help? I wish no one was at the gym when I was there, I take paxil for that type of deal but it isn't helping at all. Any ideas, or what do you do? And I do not have, nor can I get a trainging partner, so thats out of the question(unless someone here goes to VA TECH. thangs guys

Is paxil hard to get a prescription for? I'd probably meet alot of the criteria necc. for it? I'm 20yr old I wouldn't recomend any supp for concentration, unless you can get a presc. for aderol (but it will dehydrate you) and prob is not beneficial for muscle growth just try and clear your mind before a set, I usually walk to the drinking fountain, take a sip and walk back to the next set. moving blocks out all distractions for me. if you just sit there you are bombarded my distractions. try pacing, or walk outside. then walk back to the set. I can't really give you any good solutions. When I walk into a gym, I leave all of my thoughts that have nothing to do with my workout outside the door. I'm also thinking of new ways to approach a set and I'm always paying attention to my muscles. I'm always experimenting with different rep speeds. One time I just decided to so something out of the ordinary. I felt so strong and energetic I was doing low rep work like (1-5 reps) and each rep was about 20-60 seconds long. I only used one set of course and I really remember the burn. It is something I don't want to experience again. I don't recommend those type of reps. Now I just stick with 4 seconds up, 2 second pause and 4 seconds down. ------------------ -HB-

If it is possible, try to go to the gym at different times just to see how crowded it is. I did this and was able to go to the gym where sometimes there was no body in the gym at all. The down side to this is that there is no spotter handy but you can get an excellent workout in! If you have the space, another thing you might do is start building your own gym in your home. I did this a year and a half ago and it has been the best investment I have ever made, no distractions and the gym is always open and accessible. Another thing that worked for me is pacing. I know there has to be people in the gym that think I'm crazy when I do this but it clears my mind. Good luck! ------------------ Train......................(S)mart |
