From cadaver dissection this fall I am amazed as to how much fascia there is. It is everywhere. It ensheaths every muscle. A few years ago I heard about fascial stretching and I believe that it was promoted by Parrillo out of Ohio. Does anyone know anything about this or what is involved?

You could get a really good explanation by reading SportStretch by Michael J Alter. Regular stretching does permit a semipermanent change in length of the facial sheaths. Any stretch you do will affect the facial sheaths because therein lies the elasticity; tendons and ligaments dont stretch much at all. Read up on passive, active and PNF stretching to decide which is best for you.

It seems intuitive to me that putting stress on the fascia would stimulate fibroblasts to proliferate and differentiate. Where do I get this article that you refer to?

The stretching of the facia only works temporarily I would suggest some deep tissue massage to get the fascia loosened up and maintain it by strectching but it will still return over a extended period of time.

There is a technique called Rolfing that works well to stretch the facia. There are several web sites you can find by searching. One of the webs sites explains the theory and pratice. Practitioners are located all around the country. |
