I'm currently smack in the middle of high school football season. I'm working out 3-4 times a week still on an abreviated routine. But over the last month and a half, I have made almost no gains whatsoever. I do usually workout at night after practice. I havn't lost any reps or weight. Is it normal to only be able to maintain while doing other strength demanding activities.

some will say maintaining is good during an athletic season, but i disagree. almost everyone makes gains in the offseason. but what will separate u is if u make gains during the season as well. i played hs football also. email me ur routine. maybe its a little thing that can be fixed. [email protected]. later.

well it's not really a question of weight, do you look any different? cuz if you're losing fat and staying the same weight than that means you're gaining muscle... don't sweat it.

and if you know that's not the case, then maybe you're overtraining... take a break from the weights and concentrate on football for a week and return to the gym STRONGER than ever!

knock some heads off man!

Try bumping up your caloric intake. You're burning a ton of calories during the season with the daily practices and all.

i play football too and i've actually lost strength during the season. i just it's because u really dont; want to tire ur self out for practice. but ihave noticed that i have tightened up from the running and conditioning. and i knwo most of the guyz on r team have nto been able to make gains during the seaso, so i guess it's a common problem

You would be better off maintaining your gains through a maintanence program during your season and focus on excelling in your sport.
You can not put 100% effort into 2 things at the same time and expect to get great results.
