I have recently done something to my right elbow...I can't do seated overhead extentions as the pain is too great.. I think I most likely did it with a combination of the overhead ext. (curl bar with 55lb on each side) and playing softball..it also hurts to do pushdowns. Curls are ok. So I figure I will give my upper body a break for a week or two and concentrate on my lower body (Hey..who can't use more work on the lower body right??) I am thinking this for a routine. Mon.---Deadlifts, Bent rows. Shrugs and possibly Power Cleans Wed.--light bench (if elbow permits) Curls Fri. Squats, calf raises, lunges with dumbells (if you guys want a sore legs and ass try this "sissy" exercise with some 50lb dumbells in each hand) My upper body grows fine so Im not worried about losing a lot of mass but I have to let the elbow heal so i will lose some muscle. Im 5'8 right now and weigh 198..I have no I idea what my bodyfat is but I would guess around 10 % Any thoughts or advice how to train around this injury would be appreciated..or a routine that is better than the one I thought of..Thanks bro's... I'm posting from Italy tonight...Maybe tomorrow I will post from France.. hee hee ------------------

power cleans and deadlifts will be hard on the elbow joint. if you take a week off I would say just do squats, leg press, ext. etc. leave the upper body out of it. 1 week you won't get smaller, it's ok just do it.

Just rest your elbow...stay away from anything that causes even the slightest pain...I cringe when I see guys training with knee braces and elbow braces and they're rubbing sports cream on sore joints....if you ever want an injury to heal, just rest it...you have the right idea...it sounds like you have either tendonitis, or tennis elbow....tennis elbow is caused by any flexing of the bicep without moving the wrist....after you feel better add some wrist curls to your routine and see how that works.

BigT--I do do wrist curls... I think I strained it a bit doing the overhead extentions..and just kinda worked through it..and its aggravated by playing softball.(I play left field so I get bombed out there and have to make a quick hard throw to second a lot) I haven't trained my upper body at all this week and have just done legs..Its still sore as hell..I think Im going to the Doc.... ------------------

fantom, Go out and buy one of those rubber elbow sleeves. The sleeve will keep the tendons and muscles warm in the elbow joint. This will alleviate a lot of the pain. You need to wrap your elbow just like you would wrap your knees when doing heavy squats. Keep away from any upper body training for 1 - 2 weeks. I have a bad elbow from years of pitching and throwing curve balls. I sometimes use a wrap, but mostly I stay away from skull crushers and overhead extensions. Hope this helps, |
