ive been lifting very heavy lately, 4-6 reps, and ive seen good results. but i have one problem, my chest is noticibly lagging compared to the rest of my body. so my question is should i add another chest only day in my weekly routine? i was thinking, i would work dumbells on one chest day 4-6 reps, and work heavy bb exercises the next, again 4-6 reps. do you think this is a recipe for overtraining? please, anyone with experience or useful input.

I do one muscle part a day mon-fri. Leaves my weekends open. I usually hit my chest for the second time on Sat. For example if on monday I do: Incline Bar, Flat Bar, Incline flyes, and Decline Bar. On sat. I would just do flat and incline dumbells for an extra boost. Some consider that overtraining, but it has worked well for me. ------------------

I train the same muscle at least twice a week. I try and do bench and assistance exercises twice and then I do squats (and assistance exercises) one day and deadlift/back (assistance work included here too) another. Alot of times you use the same muscle groups for different exercises. Bi's get worked with back, tris with bench and shoulder press. Deadlift/squats are a good example as they work the hip/glutes/lower back as well as legs of course. Bench, shoulder press and related pressing movements use chest, tris, shoulders as well as a number of stabilizing muscles. It might be wise to look at types of movements when determining how often you work your muscles instead of trying to decided based on which "muscles" you work.

My chest is also a lagging muscle. I work it twice a week and it seems like that works better for me than just once a week. The only time it's overtraining is when you hit the same muscle on days back to back. Then, it doesn't give the muscle enough time to recover from the previous workout. But as long as you space out those workouts, you can definitely work your chest twice a week. And you have the right idea, do different exercises to give variety to your workout and to shock the muscle(s) into growth! ------------------ Train......................(S)mart
