I'm having a hard time getting to the gym this week. I lack the motivation.
What do you do when this happens?

Do some implement work or GPP stuff. Get out and do things that tax you outside of the gym. Oh, and if it only stays for a week or say, just dont go to the gym. Cheers, G.

When I lose motivation I think about what I want to be and I compare myself to something I don't like. For example. I want to be big, strong and more importantly healthy. I don't ever want to get fat and lazy. Everytime I don't feel like going to the gym I think about my best friend. God love him, but he is the laziest person I have ever met. He has no sex life and all he does is work, then he comes home and watches TV. He eats non stop. It's ok to eat, but he eats a lot of empty calories. He drinks sodas, beer, fried and fatty foods. Him and I have so little in common. I often wonder why him and I are even best friends. I don't know. I've known him since we were 3. So I guess that's why. I start to think, if you don't go to the gym, you're going to start looking like your Scott. That's enough to get me out of bed at 5AM to go workout. Think of it this way. Do you want to:

A. Be big, strong and get a lot babes.
B. Being a lazy slob who can't even even walk up a flight of stairs.

I choose A

Motivation?

Look in the mirror. Assume that what you see in the mirror is exactly what you'll look like for the rest of your life.

Satisfied? No! Get your ass to that gym!!!

Couple things -

I don't get worked up about it. If I make it that great, if I don't I make it up later. Shit man I have a busy life and paying the bills has to come first.

Time down can be realy good for you. Normally when I yake a week off I come back stronger and fresh. Every couple months I'll plan a week down.

Read about it. I look at Mags and books and look for ways to improve my routines when I get back. Or a whole new program. That way when you come back it different and fresh.

Hope that helps.

There are a couple of things I do!

Sometimes I just look at some of my past training logs and, like HIT Bodybuilder, I think about where I've came from. But sometimes that's not enough!

I also have some training vidio tapes that I watch. Sometimes watching a recording of the World's Strongest Man gets me going. I also have a tape of Arnold's Pumping Iron and I watch that. And then there are other times when I just log on to this site and I get inspiration from you guys!

If I have zero motivation and my training is not going anywhere and I don't even want to be in the gym, I take a week off, sometimes two....take more time than you need....two weeks off won't destroy a lifetime of hard work and you'll feel like such a worthless lazy peice of shit that you will return to the gym with more intensity and fire than ever, and within 2 months you should be smashing your personal best records.

i live to work out, i get so excited before every workout, no matter what bodypart it is or on what day; and after my workout i look forward to the next one two days later; and when im not working out im either planning out everything im going to do on my next workout, or thinking of the progression of weight difference i may have earned. without working out i dont know what i would do, its my life right now.

i dont know how this happened to you but, this doesnt sound like something that can be fixed at a snap of a finger, if you know what i mean.

think back and try to remember what made you start in the first place, how much you loved working out.

i defineitly know what it feels like to love something soooo much, but then suddenly start to lose intrest; see i used to be a really good skateboarder for 6 years(may sound stupid and childish to some, but i loved it), sponsorship material(not bragging) but one day i just started to lose intrest, i just couldnt even pick my board off the ground after i ended up quiting. i was lost forever, even a mild case of depression isolated from my friends and family, i didnt even want to see then

then i stubbled across weight training, something a friend at school turned me on to, from then on i ve been hooked, i owe alot to that friend, and i'll never forget him.

i guess what im saying is whether you go back to the gym or not, dont get stuck feeling sorry for yourself, get out there and do something about it; no matter what you gvie up you 'll always stumble across something better.(i dont know what could be better then body builging) just dont get caught in the transition like i did.

just my thoughts, hope it helps a little

Knowing that it is so easy to lose what you have worked so damn hard to gain........I think we all go thru lack of motivation, its part of the game, take a week off and then get back in and hit it hard...real hard......

Don't let emotions get the best of you. Use your brain to tell yourself to get in there dammit! Even if you don't FEEL like going to the gym, you're still in complete control of your actions.
