Just finished watching the Olympics and noticed that alot of the male runners had substantial muscle mass. Most runners are skinny. How do you think they keep the mass with so much cardio? I always thought that running=major muscle loss.

Also, the only guys with any decent muscle mass are the sprinters, long distance runners are skinny little pukes. Training to sprint is alot like training for football or wrestling, with quick explosive burts, then rest...an example would be running say 10 100 yard sprints with 45 seconds rest in between...this will not ravage your muscle mass like running 100 miles a week.

Big T is correct. Sprinting is more of an anaerobic activity and long distance running is an aeroblic activity. Two different types of training.

I have heard of some bodybuilders doing sprints. Why? Is this a good hamstring workout or something? I know whenever I Jog like 2 miles or whatever I get a great leg workout.

Used to do sprints after legs. Great for finishing them off. Would do a sprint and focus on hams, then one focusing on quads, then one or two all out. Try a 40yd or so, 60yd or so, and a 100 yd. Killers.

Not only are sprints more of a muscle builder, most sprinters do substantial weight training.

b fold, does do sprints after legs increase sprinting speed,or is it only good for bodybuliding purposes??

i was always afraid after what happened to me a few years ago, that if i do sprints after legs,i will have ligament and joint damage, because i felt that my legs would give in and the strain would be on other muscles and also ligaments and joints,i dont know if that was the reason or not or over training, but have u been injury free doign this? and how are your gains from doing this....versus running first or versus runing on non leg workout days

oh yea forget to comment about the olympic runners, they are not that big..in 8th grade and freshman year i thought damn they are ripped and hella musculur, but now i look at them and they are just skinny ripped, some of that got decent tone, they dont need steriods to keep that mass, they dont have alot of mass anyway, probably their genitics keeps the mass, and their calorie intake,i use to think jon drummond was huge,i still think he is,but they list him at 160,and in bb standerds 5'9 160 is light, and ato bolden is 5'9 180 and he looks like he has less mass than jon drummend, but its probably just their freaky genitics, they might use steriods, but i doubt, and even if they did they would only be running a few tenths slower without it and u would be asking the same question still

I've read that sprints are one the best ways to up the growth hormone in your body. Don't know, never did 'em much myself...
