hey guys wsup? i've been taking Alpha Lipoic Acid 2 times daily, 50mg each time, half an hour before breakfast and lunch. I was wondering if this was enough. And was also wondering if other people have had success with this, or if enhanced effects of something. Please post up results if exerienced ALA. thanks

If you're taking it as an antioxidant then 100 mg per day is just fine. However, for it to act like an insulin mimicker (as in using it to keep carbs from becoming fat) with any degree of effectiveness then you'd probably have to take upwards of 600 mg per day in divided doses like the research seems to indicate. I like to cycle my use of ALA in high doses. I take 200 mg with breakfast, 100 with lunch, and 300 with my post workout shake. I do this for around a month and a half. Then I take a month off and take only about 100 mg per day like you are doing. I do this because the research hasn't yet fully indicated what role ALA plays in pancreas longevity, so I take precaution not to overwork it. (for you research-heads out there, there is countering data that pancreatic enzymes may be released as early as when the food hits your mouth. If this is the case, then there might be a connection between pancreas output and salivary amylase...might be worth a check through the literature). At any rate, I think ALA is pretty much an awesome supplement for a variety of reasons and do take at least a little every day. Again, you gotta remember, take it before your meals, but don't take it without eating (for instance, you wouldn't want to take it in the afternoon if you don't plan on having a carbohydrate snack within about an hour--otherwise it might cause a drop in blood sugar levels). This is one of the supplements that you guys are going to hear more and more about with passing time. I know a lot of you are already very familiar with it, so please bear with me if you already know this.(however, it is not one of the hot new supplements I brought up in another topic).

i agree, but literature on ALA is hard to comeby and when you do have some indications for use they are not specific, and different sources tell you different doseages. So obviously researchers don't really know, so i thought i'd ask the guys here for effectiveness, doseage, and results... by the way when you used as insulin mimicker did you get results?

When on a CKD, I use 800-1000mg a day to help get into ketosis quicker as well as when I do my carb ups to prevent carbs spilling over to fat storage. It gets expensive but it's easier to get than metformin and might be cheeper.
