I must admit I am rather embarassed by my inability to contribute more to this board. I wish I could offer more specifics about the items promoted by the Sports Supplement Markets today. The reason I can't is due largly impart to my "old school" mentality on the efficacy of sports supplements. I can remember as an early teen, being hooked into spending close to $400 dollers on "Cybergenics" what a waste of time that was. In effect over time and after spending a ton of money on bullshit pro-hormones, and creatine, phosphagain, hmb, etc. I have come to the incontrovertable conclusion that 98% OF IT is all SHIT! Disculding powdered protien, L-Gultamine, and thermogenics, nothing out there is worth the expense. Ask some of our grizzled meathead veterens, they will all tell you that nothing feeds the body better than whole food. I gotta agree. However, I am dissapointed in my ready need for mprs, and sythetic foods. I pray to god that the overwhelming amount of aspertam I have ingested from these products, diet cokes, doesnt give me penal cancer or something equally dreadful in the future. Stick with the whole food, buy the Meal replacements and Powdered Protiens sparingly. Best advice I can give you. I hope my account isnt deleated for this. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Twisted_Steel (edited August 19, 2000).]

You have many valid points, and whole foods are best, but supplements have come a long way since the Cybergenics days. Many MRP now use Sucralose, not Aspartame, however I must agree that most supplements are useless or don't do enough to make a difference.

Well I will agree that whole foods are the best way to get nutrients. There are times that a person does not eat right or can not get many different types of foods. In this case some suppliments are needed like the previously mentioned along with Flax seed oil, vitamins and mineral suppliments. Other than that I also do not think too much of all the products out there. ------------------

i have to disagree about creatine. it is 100% proven (ok, nothing is 100%. i'll say 99.99%). not all supps are miracles by any means, but they still are very useful. guggelsterones is an example. this stuff is NOT going to give you dramatic results. but it does lower LDL cholesterol, and dramatically improve acne conditions with no adverse effects in most users.

I agree, I'm thru with supplements, No thanks to Bill Phillips I've wasted over $2000 in every suplement you can think of, thinking I could look like him that way. Not even Creatine works on me, the only thing that works somewhat is ZMA, and ECA stacks, that's it...

damn i thought bill philips knew his shit... seeing all those people and their results. But you gotta also think about greed, and the supplements he tryin to sell ya is just for more money in his pocket.

When you need to keep your protein intake high, an MRP is a quick easy way to get 40+ grams. MRPs are NOT a supplement, they ARE real food in a convenient to consume form. There are several that do not contain aspartame to that should not stop anyone from using that sort of product. MRP's have made a real difference for me in transforming my physique (aside from dedicated weight training). The only supps out there that have done anything for me are Androsol (gained noticeable LBM) and tribulus (increased natural T levels). Just wanted to throw my opinions/experience into the conversation.

TwistedSteel you are 100% correct about spending all that money for little results, especially the Cybergenics, what a rip-off. You make excellent points about how a good healthy diet will maintain a good physique. I will back you up on that statement. In my experience in this industry have found out that there is no scientific breakthrough supplement. All you need is just a good protein source, some carbs and a multi-vitamin pill. Though one thing I will disagree with you is on Creatine. I did find I got alot bigger and strength definitely went up. Though I know alot of that mass was water retention I tried a thermal genic pill and lots of water to rip up. Definitely worked. I feel really bad for the newbies out there, especially the ones that think they are going to get big off some stuff called The Beast. What a sucker. P.S. Don't feel bad about the Cybergenics I bought some myself spent a shit load of money on it and now all I give it is just the big middle finger. What a joke. FLEX on this. Outside of good ole protein and maybe creatine, everything else out there is an absolute waste of dough. And as T.S.points out, food can pretty much provide all the same results for a much cheaper cost.Good thread.

This thread is sooo good that there really isn't any need for the supplement board to continue. It has all been said right here. I almost never visit this board because I, too, have worked out long ago that food, training and sleep (plus glutamine and some vitamins/antiox) are the only things worth putting time and money into. Don't know why I wandered over here today.

This thread reinforces what I've found personally over the years. ( I too spent $$ on BS products ). Supplements that I use are 1) Multi-vitamin 2) Flax Seed Oil 3) Hydroxycut ( I'm 41 and difficult to keep weight off) 4) Milk Thistle ( improve Liver Function ) 5) L-Glutamine ( Control Alcohol cravings ) 6) Protien Powder

I do agree with you on some of the things you said. Creatine can work for some people, not everyone. This is a fact. Some people don't respond to creatine. But I believe creatine is a very important factor for my strength gains. Protein powders and MRP's are good. They are very convenient, if you don't like to cook 2-4 extra meals a day. I avoid all aspartame products myself. Glutamine is a great supplement. Probably the most valuable supplements are multi-vitamins, EFAs and anti-oxidants. These are the supplements I take and are in the order of importance: 1. Twinlab's Daily Two Usually I don't need any glutamine, because I take 2 MRP's a day and 2 servings of Pro Fusion a day. Each serving has 10 grams of glutamine peptide, so 40 grams is a enough. ------------------ |
