I was told by my former personal trainer, whom have won several bodybuilding competitions, that I should not use protein powders.
" Throw that shit away, I get all my protein from real food!" is what he said.

My question is how much do you guys rely on the powders for protein and how could anyone eat so much meat without getting instant artery blockage?

well if u dont have to work everyday and can just sit around and eat all day that might be true....say if u weigh 200lbs you need to take in 300grams of protein a day just to maitain....so yes the protein powder does help in a lot of ways....

I don't recommend that you get all of your protein from solid foods. It really puts a lot of stress on your kidneys. Most protein powders have enzymes that helps you digest the protein powder a lot easier. Also, I've tried to take in 360 grams of protein from solid foods and it's really a chore. It's not easy. Protein powders are designed to help you achieve your protein requirements. I recommend using a protein blend. Whey protein is good, but it's not the best, in my 'opinion'. You're free to believe what ever you want. The reason is that it's used to quickly. 40% of it is used as energy instead of stored protein protein. Stored protein is what contributes towards muscle. It would be better to have a blend of high quality proteins, like egg, milk, whey and casein.

It's true you shouldn't drink all your protein but have you tried to eat 350g. of protein a day on a low calorie diet? Damn hard! I use it as a crutch because of my diet. Later, Green

Just about every mag says you should get 50% of your protien from powders and the other half from foods. I think it has to do with what MaxMuscle was saying about your kidneys breaking down the protein.

the Meal Replacement Powders (Myoplex, etc) are REAL nutrient dense food, but in liquid form. They contain a balance of protein, carbs and fat. There's no way I could get the 200g/day protein I need without their convenience.
