I personally like Alternative Nutrition Whey Protein Vanilla. I mix it with skim milk and put it in a mixer for 10 or 15 seconds and I can't tell the difference between that and a McDonald's milk shake. Plus it's 28 bucks for a 5 pound container.

Hey Bacdoc where can I get the best deal
from Alt.nut. online? I've been taking Whey
by Optimum which tastes pretty good & I get
a 5lb. tub for $35.

By the way I would say that desighner protein
is the best tasting but too expensive.

Scott, they use dps nutrition for their shipping.
http://www.dpsnutrition.com
once you get there, click on the right hand side where it says alternative nutrition and it will give a list of their products. I hope that helps.

what the hell...you guys work for alt. nutrition or something? btw i think that you get what you pay for when it comes to protein especially. (if you pay 28 bucks for 5 pounds or protein, that's the quality you're getting.) that $28 protein is not gonna be as good as met-rx or something like that, whether you want to admit it or not, but it's definitely better for people on a strict budget that just need to up protein intake.

I agree!!! Funny thing is Designer Protein is the cheapest around here, so I don't know what the guy was saying about it being expensive. I've used almost every brand, from Nuclear Nutrition to EAS and all the big boys to Dorian Yates Approved to Grow! (my friend is a magazine editor and gets stuff for free so he gives it to me when he has extra) and the two brands I've found work the best are Designer and Nitro-Tech.

Have any of you tried mixing brands? For example mixing a cheap brand like Optimum with a good quality brand like AST?

I know that it may seem strange to think that a 28 dollar container of protein is the best out there, but I stand by it. As far as it's comparison to Met-Rx, I honestly don't think there is one. I know around here people are brand specific, but hey, why not try other things? Isn't that the drive that keeps up improving in the weight room?
If you are worried about quality, then why not give it a try and if you don't like it then let me know. But I can assure you this...this is the only protein powder that I know of that is actually kosher, which means it goes through an extensive purity process. Alternative Nutrition's Whey protein even posts their independant lab analysis online too. See if the other brands do that. Don't write it off just because of the price. That's a big mistake in this case.

I'm not ragging on Alternative Nutrition because I'd like to try their products sometime, but I am just saying by using the amount of protein per serving divided by the amt of powder per serving you get a protein percentage of 78% which is average for staight up protein concentrate mixtures. I am not ragging on them, just pointing that out. I will try their products sometime and let everyone know what I think. BTW, I figured it out because if you take 5lbs or 2268 grams of powder, divide that by 77 servings (how many in container) and then divide that number by the protein content of 23 grams per servingyou get 78%. Which is pretty decent. plus no hype. Period. Later.

Serial Joe...

You gotta be a fuckin' moron if you like Nitro-Tech! Forget about A.N. for a second. Anyone who buys that Muscle Tech shit just doesn't know their ass from a hole in tha ground. I don't like you and I hope some day we meet up. And you know whats funny, you'll probably crack under curiousity and buy some A.N. protein, like it, and then think back to the day I TOLD YOU SO.

To the others, with a more open mind, I would like to extend my apology to you and hope that this petty fued will stop. Godbless...

Swollen....well you've gotta be a fucken moron to even PAY for your protein, so shut the fuck up, cuz I get it for FREE. I'd rather get free Nitro-Tech than pay $28 for 5lbs of the dog food protein that Alternative makes...You're probably plugging them because you finally made some progress in the gym (probably finally stopped eating like a bird) and suddenly whatever supplement you were using at the time is the greatest thing in the world...

Well grow up and come back when you actually have some relevant supplement knowledge. Hell I'll bet you can't even give me a reason why you think Alternative's whey is any better than any other company, without resorting to one test that they post on their website, and some placebo effect results you go from using it.

Big deal, AST post's tests on their site all the time.

Maybe I'll ask Paul Delia to perform a test on Alt's nutrition and tell the world just why it's so much greater and why idiots like you are roaming the earth with your pink girly weights proclaiming it's so...

O.K. we are now arguing without logic or reason and getting into a pissing contest. I have been a little pissed off lately and I apologize for coming on these boards spaming. On the other hand, I don't understand why you were getting all upset over a little word of mouth. There are over a hundred threads here and I only posted on 3. You have called A.N. protein dog food, but have you tried it? Also, $28.00 is very very cheap for a 5lb. concentrate/isolate protein. You pay that much for 2lb. containers produced by
GEN AMP Whey Protein
Champion Nutrition Pro-Score 100
Designer Protein
Sportpharma Actisyn
AST Sports Science VyoPro
Labrada ProPlete
In fact, the only thing bigger than 2lb. is 6lb. Prolab Advanced Whey Protein and that is close to $70.00! All I'm saying is don't knock it until you've tried it. I hope this settles our disagreement.

I'm not trying to say A.N. is bad, I haven't tried their products. Usually when you buy protein powders in 5-10 pound containers, the quality isn't great. Companies usually make a cheap product and sell it in big quanities to make more money. Like Prolab's whey. You pay 28 bucks for 5 pounds of whey protein concentrate. The quality is crap. Usually the saying goes, "You get what you pay for." This is not always true, but it is most of the time. I believe taste is a good factor in protein powders. But I'd rather be drinking a shitty tasting protein powder and be making more muscle gains, than I would with the better tasting, but cheaper protein powder. If you're like me and are serious about making muscle gains, you can't be too picky. Try Pro Fusion from Muscle Link. It's good stuff. It's a protein blend. It is supposed to be the same as "Mother's Milk." Which is better supposively better than whey. Whey protein has no anti-catabolic effects, like casein does. Having a mixture of slow digesting proteins and fast digesting proteins is better for muscle gains. This supplement decreased my recovery time in half. It has 45 grams of protein, 6 grams of carbs, 1.5 grams of fat and 10 grams of glutamine peptide. Check it out. You can get a pretty good description of it at www.netrition.com and the site has very prices.

Nothing is better than whey. Whey protein isolate is the best source of protein hands down, problem is, it's expensive to make and it inherantly tastes bad.

So what companies do is they load up their protein with cheap Whey Protein Concentrate with small amounts of isolate. The result is a great tasting whey for a low price.......and a bunch of suckers who make little or few gains off of it. Grow! by Biotest has to be one of the biggest scammers when it comes to this. Same with Optimum and Prolab.

MRP's are just as bad, in fact companies will resort to using cheap casein and other milk proteins. Only two brands have are an MRP will all whey, and they're Isopure and Meso-Tech.

Read the labels carefully and forget about the taste, chances are if it tastes too good to be true, it's full of WPC, casein and cheap milk proteins.

Whey protein isolate is good, but it won't give you the size you're after. Protein blends are better for gaining muscle mass. Also, whey protein isn't anti-catabolic. Mother's milk is the best source of protein. Pro Fusion isn't real mother's milk, but it's very similar. I've tried a lot of whey protein powders and I've got to say that none of them even compare to Pro Fusion. I haven't tried Nitro Tech, Cyto Pro WPI or Methoxy Pro. I've tried VP2, Prolab's Isolate, Isopure, Twinlab's, Kaizen. Pro Fusion has helped me gain good amounts of muscle without getting fat. I gained 20-25 pounds of muscle in 8-12 months, while I was on Pro Fusion. Before I gained about 10 pounds a year. Not bad, but I didn't really see the gains. Pro Fusion has helped me recover a lot faster than any other protein powder. Actually XAP's protein powder is supposed to be very good. I haven't tried it. It's made up of mostly amino acids, which are actually better than any other protein. Amino's are the building blocks of protein. Mother's Milk comes seconds and whey isolate comes third. I read this somewhere. I can't remember where.

Yeah but if you're relying on a protein supplement to gain size, then you're never going to get big to begin with....

How can you say whey isn't anti-catabolic? Any food can stop cortisol production, and whey contains glutamic acid, which is very anti-catabolic. Nitro-Tech also has lipoic acid, once again anti-catabolic.

And if you really want to get nit-picky, Bovine Serum concentrate is better than mothers milk.

I could sit here all day and shoot your post full of holes with all the obvious errors in it. Post me your reference before you quote some advertisments you read.

I'm just going by what I have tried. Out of all the protein powders I've tried, Pro Fusion has worked the best for 'me'. I'm not saying that whey won't work for anyone and that it's a bad choice. "I" don't believe that whey is the best source of protein. I do believe it is one of the best. I'm not trying to make anyone change protein powders, I'm just stating an "opinion." That's all. I believe that Pro Fusion and Muscle Meals are the best protein powders out. You can say that whey is the best, I don't really care. Have you tried Pro Fusion? I've tried a lot of whey isolates out there. I plan to try Nitro-Tech eventually, but right now I'm happy with the gains I'm making. It was nice exchanging opinions, but I'm going to try to avoid any conflicts. Happy training.

I've only been using Nitro-Tech for a week and I've noticed I'm harder and more vascular. The lipoic acid can taste a bit different, but overall it's the only protein I've used where you can notice a difference taking it......not to knock other proteins as I wouldn't be this big without their help, but before, the brand never mattered it was all the same. Nitro is different though, I know when I've taken it.

Pro Fusion and Muscle Meals are put out by Muscle Link. Have you ever read an Ironman Magazine? You probably have, well Ironman basically owns Muscle Link supplements. If you want a free sample packet of Muscle Meals, go to www.ironmanmagazine.com

It's very similar to Pro Fusion. Muscle Meals has 11 grams of anti-catabolic fats, which are good fats. 40 grams of a protein blend, which is supposed to be the formula of human milk. 10 grams of glutamine peptide, which is better than L-glutamine, which you usually buy in powder or capsule from. Glutamine peptide is almost absorbed 100%. If you ever do take L-glutamine, take it with water on an empty stomach. It doesn't absorb as well with other foods. I really like Muscle Meals as well.

Here are a couple reasons why I like Muscle Meals. When I first tried Muscle Meals, I just got through my leg workout. Before I used to leg press 1200 pounds and my legs would be dead sore the day after. So sore it was hard to walk. Well, after one of those leg workouts, I used Muscle Meals about 30 minutes after my workout and the next day me legs weren't sore at all. They were a little fatigued, but that was it. It's a good MRP. Try it, email me and let me know what you think. [email protected]

AST's VP2 tastes bad? I've never used it, but I know that VP2 is 100% whey isolate. I read that Whey Isolate, that is pure, is supposed to have almost no taste at all. Companies always add sweetners for flavoring. I'm suprised to hear that a 100% whey isolate product tastes bad. I personally can't drink bad tasting protein shakes.
