Your body naturally produces glutamine, but most of it is used in the gut thru digestion. When Your training your muscles need glutamine, but your muscles are being robbed of this good stuff thru digestion. So you should take it in a supplement form atleast 2000mg per day,the best time to take it is on an empty stomach when getting up in the morning or before going to bed & immediately after you finish training. When you sleep & when you train that is when your muscles are the most drained of glutamine.I've been taking glutamine for years now stand by it 100%.If there is 1 amino your gonna take it should be this stuff.Glutamine has also been shown to increase growth hormone & protect the immune system. I agree 100% Scott. I think we all need to be taking glutamine since it helps protect the entire digestive tract. I had to have radiation treatments for cancer 2 years ago and two months later, my stomach was giving me so much pain that I was on morphine, and even that stopped working. They told me it was a complication of the radiation, and there was nothing more to be done, except take out the section of my intestine that was going into spasm and causing the pain. I told them to drop dead. A buddy of mine told me that glutamine is good for the intestines so I started taking it. Less than 48 hours later the pain was totally gone and has not returned even once since then. I take it every morning and night just like Scott said and not only did I maintain my weight throughout the chemo (which the doctors said was a fluke)I have been able to get back my lost muscle mass in record time. I'm bigger and stronger than I've ever been and I think a big part of that is glutamine. Literally, I shudder to think where the hell I'd be without it. You won't get big overnight with it, but you'll be doing your body a favor. IP: Logged |

One thing to watch out for though... I had heard that glutamine and creatine enter the cells using the same receptor. So if you are mixing them, only half of the total input is being used...that could add up to quite a bit of wasted money... Pubert IP: Logged |

Creatine is an ATP-cycle substrate. Glutamine is a conditionally essential amino acid. They don't compete for receptors because they don't use receptors. Hormones and neurotransmitters do. But, you know, Pubert is onto something! Creatine does work best with carbohydrate-based food, while glutamine works best on an empty stomach. Now THERE'S a reason not to take them together! (Though if you do, it wouldn't be the end of the world.) I can't tell you how incredibly significant I think glutamine is to long-term health, fitnes, and mass. IP: Logged |

If not receptor, then transport? I will try and find the article and post it up here. Pubert IP: Logged |
