I am currently lifting in my offseason for football. We lift Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, leaving wednesday, saturday, and sunday as the off days. I am supplementing right now with: Protein powder, phosphagen Hp creatine, glutamine, branch chain amino acids, Ultra Fuel(complex carb supp. by Twin Lab), Fish Oils, and a multivitamin. Does anyone know how much of anything I should be taking in my off days so i dont waste my money. Thanks -JC IP: Logged |

You could get by with taking the vitamins, fish oils, protein and glutamine on your off days. I'd take the protein between meals so that you don't go more than 3 hours without protein in your system. At night, take 5 grams of glutamine and then another 5 grams in the morning since your body can really use the extra since sleeping is a long time to go without muscle building subtrate. I don't take creatine on off days, rather, I take it after heavy workouts (5 grams). If you are looking to save money, then you can find a 1000 gram can of micronized creatine for about 35 dollars instead of the more expensive phosphagen. You can also find a pretty good protein from Optimum which has a 5 lb container (77 servings) for about 30 dollars. You'll go through a lot of glutamine, so find a retailer who will sell you bulk for a reduced price. The vitamins must be taken every day since your body requires them. The fish oils are also required since. You might think about adding an antioxidant to take after your workouts. I like alpha lipoic acid in capsule form taken with my post-workout creatine. It is an antioxidant and it helps the creatine absorb faster. You should also be taking in carbohydrates with your creatine as well. Max Muscle makes a product called "Excel" which contains Protein, glutamine and creatine and is pretty good stuff. That might save you some dough. I hope that helps. IP: Logged |
