I just heard this. And freakin out a little. I have had horrible problems with kidney stones and DO NOT WANT ANYMORE.

Could anybody shed some light on this. Someone also told me the liquid creatine is better.

That rumor has been floating around forever. In Janruary of '97, the 'Pharmacists Letter' published an artical stating that with sufficiant fluids long term (5yr) use of Creatine Citrate showed no signs of causing noticable damage to any inert organs or functions. I checked with the 'New England Journal of Medicine' and they don't have any conclusive evedance of there being truth to that either. I think it will be a while before they have any true evidence to if Creatine Monohydrate has any longterm side effects. The only place I haven't checked lately for updated info on supps is Mayo's huge archive of studies. They've always got inside info on drugs!! he he

Creatine is naturally occuring in the body. To take extra creatine does not stress the liver.

No studies have conclusively shown creatine to cause any problems 4 those w/ HEALTHY kidneys.Taking extra creatine causes us to excrete more CREATININE which is sometimes looked at as a sign of improper kidney function, however, most doctors don't understand that this perfectly normal when supplementing w/ creatine. But like I said,if u have an existing kidney problem, than perhaps u should b careful when supplementing w/ creatine. If u r healthy...load up!

All I know is I took 20 grams yesterday after my workout in a glass of Kool Aid and my kidneys were hurting bad the rest of the night. I usually take 10 grams and was just experimenting.

Creatine will increase creatinine levels, which is a marker of kidney function. No studies have shown negative side effects in people with healthy kidneys. Now, you mentioned you have or had kidney stones. I would do research on that topic relating to creatine specifically. Perhaps an imbalance in your body could lead to creatine causing problems for you. Not saying it will, but because of your condition, I would definately look into it. On healthy kidneys, no known side effects.
