There's something I don't understand. I've heard that the ALA in Cell-Tech is useless because it is in powdered form and won't be effective when added to liquid, hence it is preferable to take it in capsule form along with creatine. But the ALA in the capsule is still in powdered form and will still be taken with water, which is the same as the powder in Cell-Tech. Can you see my point?

Yes, that's almost correct. The problem with ALA is that it is extremely chemically sensitive to oxygen, not so much to water. ALA is an unstable compound, meaning that it is trying to become more stable by adding the proper amount of hydrogens to its structure. Okay, in English, ALA in capsule form is much better than loose ALA. For example, Sundown makes an ALA tablet--and after having used capsules for a very long time, I couldn't tell it was doing anything at all. Here's how I figured it out. I take lots of protein and maltodextrin after my workouts. I take 300 mg of ALA to boost cell infusion of carbohydrates. The effect is like adding to an already killer pump. Since insulin is required as a tag for sugar to enter cells, and ALA mimics insulin, the sugar is quickly taken into the cells and so your cells "fill up" more than if you didn't take the ALA. Chemically, eventually the ALA would be stabilized and rendered apparently useless by adding it to water, but it's my understanding that that is a slow process...much too slow for the digestive process to affect it.

Q. I have seen where some creatine powders have ALA added to them to help creatine uptake. Does this work? No! There's a big problem with this. You see, ALA is a very unstable chemical that will degrade rapidly if exposed to atmospheric conditions for even short periods of time. In fact, when we purchase our ALA is is delivered in special 2 kilogram vacuum packed packages that uses a UV protected plastic. This packaging shields the ALA from both air and light. It's almost comical how these companies formulate their products. They will If you add ALA to a creatine powder the ALA will degrade and become This is why you should never use a creatine with the ALA already mixed in. This |
