Has anyone ever tried this supplement? I seen it sold at anti'aging clinics and i've read articles saying that it can increase your IGF-1 levels by 17%. Here is a website i found on this stuff http://www.intact.com.au/clinical.htm I also found a post that talked a little about the subject. BS: Why would you want colostrum? That's for cows and babies. NM: I think that colostrum was dismissed a little too quickly. When Bill Phillips came out and said that it was worthless, everyone forgot about it. Now, I know that Bill's information is always unbiased and accurate (cough...choke), but he jumped the gun on this one. I found colostrum to be effective. It was overhyped when it came out, but studies have shown that it's as good of an immunity enhancer as glutamine. Besides, ya' gotta' love that nameit just sounds like it'll get you big! BS: Tell you what, Monty. I'll bet $500 to your $100 that there's no way the purported IGF-1 present in colostrum can get through the digestive tract. NM: Well, start digging into your pockets, my friend. There's mounting evidence that the stuff is legit. In one study, it was shown that cow colostrum contains a glycoprotein that acts as a protease inhibitor which, indeed, allows the immunity and growth factors to survive destruction from digestive acids. Doug Kalman and Dr. Colker over at the Peak Wellness research center are believers in the stuff, and Jose Antonio just finished a study showing that colostrum increases LBM and bone mineral uptake. That's good enough for me, especially if I can get it for 12 bucks a pound. Then again, I'm not real comfortable with the question of how sanitary something might be when it's marketed for animals. Any input would be appreciated. =) ------------------ MustangRacer27 | ||

Here's an article on the subject: Bovine Colostrum Ergogenic Aid? What's colostrum? Well, colostrum is the pre-milk fluid secreted by cows during the first few days after calving. This fluid has been reported to be rich in immune and growth factors including IGF-1. Whether or not these factors are completely absorbed in the human GI tract has been a topic of debate. However, recently several studies have examined colostrum as a potential aid to athletes. In one study presented at the National Strength and Conditioning Association's annual meeting, it was shown that 8 weeks of colostrum supplementation (60g per day) increased vertical jump and sprint performance in well-trained elite During this presentation, results from one other investigation using oral bovine colostrum supplementation were also discussed. In this second investigation, vertical jump performance was enhanced in healthy volunteers with colostrum supplementation. In a third study discussed at the same meeting, 8 weeks exercise training (aerobic and weights) with bovine colostrum supplementation (20g per day) was compared to 8 weeks of training with whey protein supplementation (20g per day). Although there were no differences between groups in terms of muscular strength or endurance, the whey protein group gained 2.11kg of body mass whereas the colostrum group gained 1.49kg of bone free lean body mass. Although the authors did not list whether the gains in the whey group were a result of fat or lean body mass, or whether the colostrum group gained only lean body mass or fat mass too, it is clear that both whey protein and colostrum can be valuable tools for weight gain during training. 1) Bovine colostrum supplementation in trained individuals. 2) Oral supplementation with bovine colostrum (intact) improves sprint performance in elite field hockey players. 3) Oral supplementation with bovine colostrum (intact) increases vertical jump performance.
